The Scarlet Pimpernel

The Scarlet Pimpernel is probably my favourite musical outside of CATS. The characters are some of the best in any musical-ever! There's romance, comedy, duels, rescues, betrayal, beheading, and all the other good stuff that all musicals should have. (IMHO)

My favourite characters would probably be... a tie between Percy and Armand- but especially Armand. I don't know why, but Armand St. Just (Mandy!) has held a special place in my heart since...well, forever. He is cute, sweet, charming, naive, and hopelessly devoted to Percy's league, as well as being Marguerite's brother. (In the book, he's older than her, but in the musical, he's much younger.)

My favourite song... *blink* murr... There are very few (I can't really think of any, as a matter of fact) songs in the musical that I dislike, but I think my favourite must be Where's The Girl? which Chauvelin sings, trying to get Marguerite to come back to him. The song is wonderfully sensual and you can just tell that a woman wrote it... Unfortunatly, I have never heard a live Chauvelin (including Terrence Mann himself) live up to the Original Broadway cast recording.

My Own ExperiencesIn my junior year of high school, I had the oppurtunity to actually be in this musical, as Marguerite(youngest student on record in the school to have a leading role!). The version was SP 1.0, and Landon Braverman was Chavelin and James Young was Percy. Our Armand was this very cute, little guy named Patrick (he would kill me for saying that). Maybe one day I'll put my SP diary up...but then again... maybe I won't. :)
