Coricopat And Tantomile-The Mystical Twins of CATS

Early Japan

Two CATS that I feel don't get nearly enough credit are Coricopat and Tantomile, the psychic twins of the musical. Besides sensing things before they happen (such as the arrival of Old Deutoronomy), they are quick to help protect the tribe. The actors who play them always have to move in perfect sync, the two characters are so in tune with one another. They don't sing much, but they do sing in Jellicle Songs and Old Deuteronomy, as well as The Jellicle Ball.

Favourites

My favourite Coricopat EVER was Oliver Tydman of the last London cast. He was incredible in his main role, but I loved him as Ghenghis-his accent was priceless. :) My favourite Tantomile...well, I don't really have one, I guess. They're all good. *blush* That may have seemed like an easy out, but I've always preferred Coricopat to Tantomile. Don't tell. ;-) I don't really know why I like Coricopat better, but there you are-I just do.

Sounds

"Are You Tense When You Sense There's A Storm in the Air?"-Coricopat, Australia

"Can you ride on a broomstick to places far distant?"-Tantomile, Australia

Were you there when the pharoahs commissioned the sphinx?-Tantomile, Japan. The lyric is also sung in Japanese, btw.

International Names

Coricopat is called 'Coricopat' everywhere but Antwerpen, where his name is "Wageschrik".

Tantomile is "Tantomile" everywhere but Antwerpen, where her name is "Mijlenschrok".

The Twins in Different Productions

In London (pictured above), Coricopat and Tantomile are dark reds and browns, with very sleek wigs, scoop-necked unitards and no armwarmers or gloves. Their makeup is almost identical, the main difference being the lips (Tantomile has characteristic queens' lipstick, and Coricopat has a tom's mouth).

On Broadway, Coricopat and Tantomile are closer to being identical-their makeup is much closer to being the same. They have striped armwarmers and legwarmers, and much bigger wigs. Their is also a lot more white on their unitards, and they generally seem...younger, than they do in London.

Coricopat and Tantomile have never been seen on tour, which is a TRAVESTY! I just thought I'd mention that Mugojerrie and Rumpleteazer generally cover their lines on tour-notably, in TourV and TourIV.

In Japan, both Coricopat and Tanomile(pictured above) are sleeker-looking than in any other production. They both almost look like a contemporary London-styled Cassandra, with a burmese-coloured unitard.

In the CATS Video, Tantomile and Coricpat are basically London-styled, but their costumes are generally a bit lighter-coloured.
