The Rum Tum Tugger is the “stud” cat of the Jellicles, he is the cat that all the queens want and the cat that all the other toms want to be. He has his own song in the musical and struts his stuff. All the kittens go wild over him and even Bomb flirts and dances with him. Tugger sings most of his song, and enjoys the attention of the other cats.
Rum Tum also sings a couple of verses of Old Deuteronmy’s song, much to the surprise of Munkustrap. He respects Old Deuteronomy and Munkustrap and this is one of the only points in the musical where he isn’t flirting. Tugger features quite a bit in the Jellicle Ball, dancing with the toms and Bombalurina, and just basically showing off his moves.
Tugger isn’t around during the Macavity fight, (he is often one of the henchcats,) but he’s back in time to introduce Mr Mistofelees, one of his close friends. In some productions Tugger sings the whole of this song and in others Misto may sing the second verse. The Rum Tum Tugger is a curious cat!
