Chapter 5: Through Different Eyes Note: I was debating in my head, about how I should approach this chapter. I wasn’t sure if I should make it Chapter 4 from Mungojerrie’s POV, or if it should be about the day after Chapter 4. Since I am currently uncomfortable writing dialogue, I have decided to write this about Mungo and Jemima’s first encounter to their experience on the jump heap to the next morning. This has the potential to be very long. I hope you LOVE it! Mungojerrie’s eyes slowly sank shut as he watched the sun set beyond the Junkyard. It had been a very long, and tiring day. His thoughts kept drifting back to his encounter with Jemima that morning. He and Rumpleteazer had been living amongst the Jellicles for many months, but he could never get up enough courage to talk to her. Instead he settled on watching her from a far, hoping that one day she would look at him like he looked at her. Mungo was nearly asleep, and image of her burned in his brain. He smiled softly in his sleep, as he sank deeper into the clutches of sleeps. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* BAM!!! Mungo jumped to his feet. He had been having the same dream he always had. Macavity and his dirty henchcats had been chasing him and Rumpleteazer down a never-ending alley. Every time he turned around they would be a little bit closer until he could feel their hot, dangerous breath on their heels. Mungo had been having this nightmare every night since they had left Macavity’s lair for good. He would always awake covered in kitty sweat, gasping for breath. He would always check to make sure Rumpleteazer was still sleeping comfortably. Then he would let sleep overtake him again. The Next Morning… Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer had been living with their human family for a few weeks. In their time there they had been fed regularly and never beaten. Even though they were treated so well, signs of their past lives still stood out clearly. They were both still remarkably skinny for cats that ate so much, and many cuts and bruises were still visible through their sleek coats. Mungojerrie and his sister had decided that they were going to leave Macavity and join a tribe they had heard about recently. They new the Junkyard was only a few blocks away from their home in Victoria grove so one fine, beautiful morning they set out to join this tribe. They had heard about the tribe from Macavity many times. He would talk about what a group of pathetic cats lived there. Macavity had never loved, or been loved, so he didn’t see how a group of cats could all care for each other as much as the cats in the Jellicle Junkyard. Mungojerrie knew instantly that this was the tribe for them. Mungojerrie felt Rumpleteazer stop walking beside him and cautiously sniff the air. Mungojerrie followed suit and smelled what smelled like tons of cats very close by. A small smile crept across Rumple’s face since they were so close. They exchanged an excited glance and began to walk hurriedly towards the smell. Within moments they were at the entrance of a large Junkyard. All around the Junkyard were pieces of junk (appropriate!). There was an assortment of tunnels and trash heaps scattered everywhere. A large empty oven, an old beat up car, and a giant tire made up the rest of the space. Even more interesting then the junk were the many cats throughout the junkyard. There must have been about a million breeds, the majority of which were tabbies. They were all smiling, laughing, working together, and helping each other. A few feet from them a large group of kittens were playing a very ruckus game of tag. Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer were so absorbed with everything going on around them that they never saw one kitten's eyes rest on them in alarm. “INTRUDER!” yelled a small tom. As if in a movie, all of the action in the junkyard came to a halt. The kittens stopped playing and laughing, the adults stopped working and talking. Mungo looked confusedly at the kittens, wondering why none of them would meet his or Rumpleteazer’s eye. Mungojerrie looked at the back of the kitten’s heads when he made eye contact with Her. Immediately his breath caught in his throat. He was even tempted to blink a few times and rub his eyes dramatically. Standing in front of him, looking him directly in the eye was the most beautiful queen he had ever seen. Mungojerrie had seen his fair share of beautiful queens in his life. Macavity had always been a huge ladies man, and he would only mate with the most beautiful queens, but now they looked like drooling pollicles in contrast to this beauty. There was something about her eyes that made him forget about every other queen in the world. To his pleasure and astonishment, the gorgeous young queen started to walk slowly towards him. A few of her friends tried to hold her back, but she ignored them and kept walking. She got closer, and closer until the two cats were only inches apart. She slowly raised one tiny paw to stroke his face. WHAM!!! Mungo felt like all the wind had been knocked out of him and he tried desperately not to slip into unconsciousness. Out of nowhere a large silver and black tabby had tackled to him. His head lolled over to the side to look at the young queen. A queen who appeared to be her mother was now holding her protectively. The young queen’s face held a look of confusion and exasperation. “What are you doing?” yelled the young queen to the tom sitting on top of Mungo. “Jemima, do not talk to your father with such disrespect.” Scolded her mother, “You should be thanking Munkustrap for rescuing you from that tom.” Her name is Jemima. What an absolutely incredible name. Jemima and Mungojerrie. Wow! Then Mungo began to think a bit more clearly, now it all makes sense. Her father tackled me because he thought I was going to harm his kitten. “He wasn’t trying to hurt me!” Jemima exclaimed, “I was the one walking towards him, not the other way around.” At these words, Mungojerrie felt a small smile spreading across his face. The young queen blushed slightly when she saw that the smile was for her. The queen holding Jemima slowly walked towards Rumpleteazer. Mungo could sense Rumple’s body tensing even though she was standing a few feet from him. A look of sympathy passed across the queen’s face. Then she began to lightly sniff Rumpleteazer. Suddenly her eyes went wide with shock and she promptly froze. “MACAVITY!” The queen screamed. All around him, Mungojerrie could see the frightened looks on all of the cats’ faces. They had obviously heard about his ex-boss and had obviously heard the truth. All the queens swept their kittens up and carried them to a far corner of the junkyard, for protection. All of the toms gathered around Munkustrap, Mungojerrie, and Rumpleteazer, and gave the latter two of the three menacing stares. A few even hissed. The tabby on Mungo’s chest must have felt bad for the position they were being put in so he looked down at Mungo and asked, “What are your names, and what are you doing in the Jellicle Junkyard?” “I’m Mungojerrie, sir, and that there is my sister Rumpleteazer. We came here because we wanted to be part of a tribe, and yours is the closest to our homes. We don’t mean to cause any problems, and I’m sorry if I upset you or your daughter. It wasn’t my intention.” Mungojerrie calmly stated. “Hello. I am Munkustrap. My mate, Demeter, assumes that you and your sister are in some way associated with Macavity. Is this true?” Munkustrap asked. “It used to be true. Our parents abandoned Rumpleteazer and me when we were still too young to care for ourselves. Macavity offered to take us in, but he made us do jobs for him and he never fed us and beat us quite often. We decided we didn’t want anything to do with him anymore, and that is why we are here. To see if we can start a new life.” Mungo answered. Munkustrap seemed happy with his answer and gave him a reassuring smile. “Will someone go find Old Deuteronomy, please?” Munkustrap asked. Two identical cats were sent to find him. I wonder who this Old Deuteronomy bloke is? Munkustrap realised he was still sitting on the new tom’s stomach and got up and then helped Mungojerrie to his feet. Mungojerrie looked through the crowd happy to see some smiling faces along with some cold ones. Suddenly the beautiful young queen he had seen earlier, Jemima, stepped through the circle of males. Their eyes locked instantly, a look of pure Happiness on her pretty face. She slowly raised her tiny paw and swept it lightly across his slightly bruised cheek. He felt a million nerve endings explode with pleasure as he nuzzled gently into her open palm. He felt his eyes gradually sink shut. A quick “Ahem?” brought them back to reality and they quickly broke apart in embarrassment. Mungojerrie felt his face burn with his own blush, and found that Jemima’s blush rivalled his own. A hush fell over the crowd as a small black and white tom whispered, “I believe it is Old Deuteronomy.” A large brown and grey cat appeared as if conjured out of thin air. Immediately all the cats’ attentions turned from him and focused on the old cat. He was met by many joyous hugs and kisses from the cats around him. Old Deuteronomy drew his attention to the two cats sitting off to the side. “I am assuming that these are the cats I was brought here to see.” Said Old Deuteronomy. “Yes they are, father,” Munkustrap replied, “Their names are Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer. They used to be agents for Macavity but now want to start a new life with us.” “I see.” Said Old Deuteronomy. The giant cat lumbered towards Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer. With his kind, old eyes he examined them from every angle, and then began to lightly sniff at them. “I see nothing dangerous about them at all,” said Old Deuteronomy, “If they would like, I would be delighted for them to join the tribe.” “We would like that very much, thank you sir.” Mungojerrie stated. A big cheer went through the crowd, and everyone was really excited, and they had a gigundo fun party. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* This was Mungojerrie’s favorite dream. He had had it almost every night since he had come to the Junkyard. The sun had almost set while Mungo had slept. The sky was a murky mauve color and the first stars were beginning to become visible in the night sky. Mungo stretched lazily and worked all the kinks out of his extremely muscular body. He glanced around the Junkyard to see what the other cats were up to. Nothing out of the ordinary seemed to be occurring so he turned his sights to his favorite part of the Junkyard. The tallest junk heap. The junk heap wasn’t spectacular, although it did offer a fantastic view of the Junkyard and the world beyond. The best thing about it was Jemima appeared there every night. As usual Jemima was atop the junk heap. She was silently viewing the Junkyard and the world beyond. The look on her face was so troubled that Mungo was sure she was absorbed in deep thoughts. I wonder what’s bothering her. I wish there was someway I could help. Then Mungo did something he had never done before, he got up and began to walk towards Jemima. Up until this moment Mungojerrie had been perfectly content to admire Jemima’s beauty from a far. But tonight, there was something about Jemima’s troubled face that got to him. He was near the top of the junk heap when he heard her clear, sweet voice ring out. *Moonlight Turn your face to the moonlight Let your memory lead you Open up enter in If you find there the meaning of what happiness it Then a new life will begin* Mungo had heard Jemima sing this song many times before, but never so sadly, forlornly, and so dripping with emotion. He wanted so badly to comfort her and make her happy again. He brought one large paw up and softly traced it down her spine. Under his outstretched paw Mungo could feel her shiver uncontrollably with pleasure. Jemima slowly swivelled until the two were face to face. Mungo was taken aback with the emotions pouring out of Jemima’s radiant eyes. Pain and Sadness were being quickly over taken by Love and Pleasure. As she had so many months before, Jemima reached one paw to stroke Mungo’s face softly. As if by instinct, Mungo obediently nuzzled his face into her paw his eyes slowly sinking shut. He felt a deep purr erupting from deep within him. Mungo decided to be bold and turned his head so that his lips were lightly brushing the palm of her little paw. He gently placed a kiss on her paw. Jemima’s eyes instantly sank as she felt ripples of pleasure radiating through out her body. A small purr from her accompanied Mungojerrie’s deep one. Mungo took her wrist in his paw and tenderly started placing kisses along the length of her arm. He was pleased to note that she had already craned her neck to the side so he would have easier access to it. While he was kissing along her neck and lower jaw, she placed her hands on his chest gently playing with the fur there. If it was even possible he began to purr even more deafeningly. Mungo stopped kissing Jemima took look into her eyes. Her eyes were shining and reflected all the love he felt for her. They slowly stepped closer together until noses were only a few centimeters apart. He was leaning into kiss her, when she suddenly covered his mouth with her own. This new contact sent wave after wave of shivers through Mungo’s body. He was surprised how sweet she tasted, like spring and honey. Mungo gently pressed against her tongue with his own, and began to gently massage it. Mungo urgently wanted to take Jemima’s kitten hood, but he wanted it to happen if and when they became mates. He wanted to be with her with the blessing of Munkustrap, Demeter, Rumpleteazer, and the rest of the tribe. Mungo knew Jemima felt the same way, and he could feel her slowly ending their kiss. “We can’t do this.” She whispered, her voice full of disappointment. “I know.” Mungo whispered, his voice thick with lust. “I have to go now, my parents might be worrying.” Jemima said quietly. “I know, Rumpleteazer always gets scared when I’m late. Can I walk you home?” Mungojerrie asked. He saw her face brighten considerably, and his heart soared. “I would like that very much.” Jemima replied shyly. Mungojerrie instinctively took Jemima’s small hand in his much larger one as they began to descend the junk heap. They walked in silence, occasionally looking at one another. As they neared the Old Ford Jemima stopped and turned to face him. “I would like to see you tomorrow, and the day after that, and the day after that.” Jemima said shyly. She was glad as well as mortified to share her true feelings with Mungo at last. “Of course, I would like that very much.” Mungo replied, large smiles breaking onto both of their faces. Mungo was at least a head and a half taller than Jemima so to kiss properly she had to stand on her tiptoes and he had to bend over. They kissed gently one last time before Jemima hesitantly walked towards the Old Ford, where her mother and surrogate father were waiting. Mungo could have done thirty back flips, but he was content at the moment just to walk to his home in Victoria Grove with a huge stupid grin on his face!!!!!! Part 1. Part 2. Part 3. Part 4. Part 6.
