Demeter
Who is Demeter? Demeter is the small gold and black kitty who is very high strung, paranoid, and is just wired up and ready to bolt. This is because she has had an incredibally rough life. Macavity used to be Demeter's Tom and when he started getting into some bad stuff she left him but he refused to let her go. Macavity has tortured her amlost her entire life and has hurt her and raped her. In a way she somewhat enjoyed this but was very hurt and scared at the same time. Demeter can sense Macavity anywhere and will not let him do the same thing to her again because she knows he'll be back for her. She is afraid to trust anyone except her sister, Bombalurina, and usually stays away from the male cats for she fears that they will hurt her just like Macavity. I don't believe she has been a part of the Jellicle tribe for very long and that's probably why she's afraid to get close to any of the other Jellicles. Even though Demeter is a bundle of nerves she is very friendly and wise. She understands Grizabella 's past and wants to embrace her and let the others understand but is scared and confused. As she gets to know the tribe more she becomes more open and has a soft spot for Munkustrap (or Alonzo depending on which cast) whom saves her from Macavity and fights to protect her. After the fight the two cuddle and become mates. Keep an eye on them during the Mr. Mistoffolees song!!!
