My Vanessa Encounter.

It seems rather fitting that nearly a year since I first saw Vanessa perform, that I return to the Mercury Lounge to see her in what will probably be that last time I see her this year.

I met up with Vee in the city. Jaxx joined shortly and later, Andy and Lisa. We got inside at about roughly 9:10. There was a big wait until the first band came on. They did a few songs and then left.

Vanessa came on shortly after. She sure gave us what we paid to see. The effort and energy she put into this concert was sensational. She was dancing all over the stage and singing her heart out. The songs were, ‘Sun’s Up’, Pray For Love’, U R Mine’, ‘Who’s Lovin’ You’, ‘The Power’, ‘Every Time I Close My Eyes’, ‘I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues’, ‘Crumbs Off The Table’, ‘Rescue Me’, ‘I Just Want To Make Love To You’, ‘Evil Girl’, ‘In The Basement’, ‘Son Of A Preacher Man’, ‘Piece Of My heart’ and ‘Turn To Me’.

After those songs, she let the band play for a little while she had a drink and sucked some honey out of a bottle. Before she came back, she reached out and shook hands with the people at the front (including me!).

Then she came on and sung, ‘Light My Fire’. At first she introduced it as a Shirley Bassey song, but then she quickly said, The Doors. Then she sang, ‘A Long Way To The Top’ and ‘Take Me As I Am’. As she sang, I screamed to the top of my lungs, “WE LOVE YOU VANESSA!” And for the first time, she saw me do it. Now she knows who’s the one who screams it out at ever concert! But she was laughing, so she obviously thought it was funny.

She introduced, ‘Have A Look’ as her last song. After she finished she went off stage. After long applause, she came on and sung, ‘Absolutely Everybody’. Then she left to tremendous applause.

Ever since I’d seen her at Mercury Lounge for the first time, no other concert of hers had really been as good as that one. I thought that it was maybe that it was so brilliant seeing her the first time, that no other concert could compare. I see now that Mercury lounge is one of the best places to see her perform. The atmosphere is just right for a Vanessa concert. This would have to be definitely the second best concert that I’ve been to. If you haven’t seen her at the Mercury lounge yet, make sure you do one day!
