Bone, Horn, and Antler Handled Canes
This cane has an antique handle that was originally a door handle made of brass and wood.  I replaced the wooden part with a carved and pierced bone bead and added an antiqued brass collar made from a pipe nipple to provide a transition and reinforce the joint between handle and shaft.
This cane has a handle made of antler into which I inlaid an oval of abalone shell and a nickel silver medallion.
Here is a cane with a handle consisting of a carved powder horn from Nepal set with turquoise and coral.  I turned the shaft from a rosewood blank and made the brass fittings from candlestick parts.
This cane has a springbok horn handle with a trilobite fossil mounted on it's end.  The shaft is black palm bought at a thrift store.
Here's the first cane I made from something other than a natural branch.  It's a horn and bamboo (with sterling silver collar) umbrella handle that I bought at a swap meet.  The shaft is a 3/4 in. walnut dowel.
