These were aspen saplings that 
had hard lives, as can be seen
by their contorted shapes.  The 
left one had been gnawed by
  some rodent (notice the teeth 
marks on the light colored
patch).
These were made from manzanita 
(a shrub that bears small apple like
fruits--hence the name which means
"little apple" in Spanish) branches.
On one, the handle end was a little
thin so I built it up with epoxy putty
and covered it with leather.
The remaining canes in this group were made from branches or saplings of various trees.  The bronze dragonfly was part of a napkin ring from Pier One.
