All My Experiences around the World
First of all, my mother and father were immigrants from Italy to the United States of America.I was born two years after they entered America from Ellis Island. growing up with an Italian heritage, I can understand as do you how important it is to understand cultures of other countries and respect them. I also know how hard it is to learn another language. As a child I learned to understand Italian and then later to speak it in college. This is one reason I was so motivated to learn European Languages such as French, German and Italian in college. After graduating from college I wanted to use my language ability in service to humankind. So I decided to join the Peace Corps, an American volunteer service agency. I wanted to go to french speaking Africa. I was accepted to serve in Senegal in West Africa. My experiences in AFrica made me more aware and sensitive to your needs as learners of English as a second language. After four years in Senegal, I was proficient in speaking both Wolof and Jolla, two African languages spoken in Senegal. This propelled me into the linguisitics program at the University of Michigan in the city of Ann Arbor. While I was there, I met many Japanese and became vbery interested in Asian culture. And that in turn, led me to coming to Japan. SInce I have been here I have visited many countries in Asia.
