Notes: This was my very first fic. I haven't sent it out to any lists or anything. So please be kind in your feedback. This was an amateur attempt to write. I did not come up with this story line. I simply stole it from episodes from seasons two and three. I of course changed the story line to fit my own tastes but hey, it doesn't count. Any resemblances to people living or dead is purely coincidental.
Thought are put in * * astrics.
Part 1
"Buffy," he whispered. His eyes bulging and his face in shock. Her eyes widened. *Angel, she silently panicked. My Angel.* But it was too late, he was already caught in the portal to hell. He reached out to her, and then fell through the portal into the black nothingness of hell. She walking away feeling incomplete, sad, and helpless. * I couldn't save you...I could never save you.* She let a rebel tear fall down her cheek.
Three to Four Months Later
Giles looked at her with an immense amount of pity in his eyes. *Poor Buffy, he thought. If only I could take away your pain.* "How are you? Buffy looked at the man standing before her. She half smiled. Giles had always been like a father to her.
"Giles, no worries. Nothing is wrong... I can deal."" She looked at him kindly, but still with a deep sadness in her eyes. He smiled unsurely back at her. He could tell she was lying. He could always tell when she was lying.
"Take the night off Buffy. Willow can watch Oz tonight."
"Sure. I'll take a bubble bath and get all girly," She smiled sarcastically. Giles frowned slightly and nodded his head. Buffy slowly left the library and headed for home. The only light the night gave off was from an eerily orange full moon. Buffy hugged herself as the night air began to creep into her skin, the coldness of the air seemed to get into her lungs.
She continued down the sidewalk and to her front door where she knew her mother would be waiting for her. Buffy tiredly climbed the stairs to her room and opened the door. There her soft pillow topped bed awaited. She sat down. Angel was the first thought that came to her head. She screamed silently. "I have to get over him. He is gone forever. He is not coming back." She would never hold the love of her life in her arms again. All she could do was dream of all the things they could have done together.
Part 2
Buffy jumped up off of her bed. *I have to get out of here or I'll go crazy thinking about Angel.* She gingerly snuck out of her bedroom window. Then she headed for the park looking for vampires on the hunt. The woods were ominously quiet, and no vampires were around. The only noise that Buffy could hear was the ringing sound of boredom between her ears. Buffy was about to head home when she heard the loud snapping of a branch.
She quickly turned around and ran to the clearing in the park. A flash of white and dark colors passed by her head. Then she was harshly knocked down to the ground. "Ahh, " She groaned as she quickly got up and into slayer-mode. When she looked up what she saw made her breath catch in her throat. "Angel." She whispered. He looked at her wildly and ran toward her and tackled her to the ground. The two wrestled harshly for a couple of minutes until Buffy slammed Angel roughly to the ground. She punched him in the face and he passed out. Buffy dragged him into the abandoned mansion where she sent Angel to hell.
The place brought back horrid memories of what could have been. Then she grabbed Angel's wrist and chained one hand to a shackle that was connected to the wall. She was just finishing chaining the second wrist to the wall when Angel was regaining consciousness. He looked at her and growled with hatred. Buffy paced the floor of the warehouse. Her thoughts were even louder than the eccentric humming of Angel. *What is he doing here? How did he get here? Does he still... love me?* She shook her head and collected her thoughts. Angel was now huddled into the corner of the wall he was chained to. He hummed the same familiar tune over and over. "Da, da ,da, da. Da, da. Da, da, da, da. Da, da." Buffy looked at him in a panic and ran out of the warehouse.
Part 3
"Buffy." Willow called. Buffy sadly smiled at her and moved robotically to an armchair next to the cage in the library. Willow looked at Buffy with concern, just like all her friends did now that Angel was gone. "Are you alright?" Buffy nodded, but she still seemed to be in a trance, just like she had been ever she had walked in the room. "Buffy!" Buffy lifted her head up and shifted uncomfortably in her seat.
"Wil, why don''t you go home. I'll take over Oz watch. I can't sleep. I need something to do." Willow looked at her thoughtfully.
"Are you sure?" Willow asked and Buffy nodded and smiled reassuringly. "Well, okay. He is pretty calm tonight."
"Go home Willow. Go study, or do whatever it is you do at night!" Willow grabbed her bag and her coat and headed out of the library. She paused when she reached Buffy. Willow gently touched her hand. Buffy looked up and a single tear ran down her cheek. When Buffy was sure Willow had left she let herself cry. Her shoulders shook with all the pain and sadness that a girl her age should not have to have had experienced. She closed her eyes.
Part 4
She tried to touch his shoulder and he turned around making his whole face visible to her. Angelus. *Angel come back to me...come back,* She thought sadly. "Angel's gone, but I'm here!" Angelus growled seemingly sensing her thoughts. "You want a kiss darling?" He seductively said, as he pushed Buffy against a wall.
He kissed her tenderly like Angel would have, and then he cruelly bit her lip. She looked up at him as she held her lip that was bleeding. Her eyes saddened and a hope that was once there seemed to leave her. Angelus laughed maniacally. "I am going to kill you!" He whispered in her ear. Buffy screamed. The hurt and anger in her eyes was evident. Angelus cruelly laughed at her again and then smacked her with a powerful force. "You mean nothing to me you disgusting whore!" He wickedly spat. Tears ran down her face as she looked at her former love. "You don't have the guts to kill me!" He taunted.
Her shoulders were shaking with sobs now. He smiled impishly gaining pleasure from her pain. She raised a stake and thrust it into his heart. "Buffy!" Angel cried as he reached out to touch her hand. His eyes seemed to change, where there was once evilness and malice, there was now sadness, and love.
"No!" She cried out.. His body turned into ash that flailed in the wind, never to be remembered. ""No!"" She screamed.
"Buffy! Buffy!"
"Angel!" She murmured.
"Buffy, wake up!" Her eyes fluttered open.
"Huh!" She looked around and her eyes focused on Giles. "Giles." Buffy whispered as she rubbed the sleep out of her eyes.
"Buffy, are you alright? You were screaming and yelling Angel's name." Giles stared into her eyes. He looked concerned and he wanted answers.
"Oh, it's nothing. Just flashbacks. Nothing really." Buffy said while looking away, hoping Giles wouldn't see the fear in her eyes. Giles pursed his lips, and then relaxed them.
"Buffy, I know you have been through a great deal. When people experience tragedy they need to talk about it. You can tell me anything"" He smiled reassuringly at her.
"Giles, there is nothing to share. Nothing wrong, remember?" Buffy gave Giles a 'duh' look.
"Alright." Giles reluctantly answered. His British accent lightly showing. Buffy had the greatest urge to touch Giles'' face, but was interrupted by Oz waking up. "I''ll be there in a second Oz." Giles went to let Oz out and when he looked back Buffy was gone. Giles slowly sighed and shook his head.
Part 5
Buffy stared at Angel, remembering how much she had missed him while he was gone. Buffy had told him many times how much she loved him, but he was still so insecure in his own self worth, that it practically took forever for him to tell her he loved her. She smiled at the thought. Buffy wondered how Angel how gotten back to Earth after she sent him to hell.
Whatever it was, she thought, she was going to find out. Angel was back. She looked back at Angel, who was again hunched in a corner. His back was still bare and cut. She walked slowly and unsurely to over to her lost love. Buffy held out her hand and she slowly attempted to touch Angel's shoulder. He violently turned and growled, shaking his chains. Buffy winced and then opened her eyes. Angel was still chained to the wall, and rocking back and fourth. She breathed heavily, and a tear escaped down her pale cheek. Buffy backed away and burst into a sprint. She ran out of the warehouse and leaned against the outer wall. Taking comfort in the warm sun.
Part 6
Angel violently wrestled with his chains. Pulling and tugging like a dog trying to get out of a yard. The bolts loosed from the wall. A loud "crack" was followed by the chains breaking away from the wall. Angel ran out of the building.
Part 7
The dark night brought along a chill. The young slayer sat atop a grave, waiting for something anything to happen. "Slayer!" She heard a voice hiss. She smiled. A vampire stumbled out of the darkness.
"Oh. Another vampire who thinks he can kill little ol' me!" Buffy said sarcastically. "Well, you're are lucky I'm in a good mood. Or else I might be offended." She smiled at the vampire as if daring him to take her on. The vampire ran toward her and grabbed her shoulders. Tossing her into a large headstone. "Uhhh!" She groaned as she got back up. Buffy's stake had fallen out of her hand and the vampire was running toward her again. "I guess I'll just have to wing it!" She confidently said.
The vampire was close enough to hit now. She kicked and made contact with his face. He stumbled backward, caught off guard. She saw her stake in his hand. "Hey, that's mine!" Buffy cried out. The vampire was once again heading for her. He punched her forcefully in the stomach, knocking her to the ground. Then she heard the vampire screaming. She jumped to her feet. Angel in full vamp face was punching the vampire in the stomach. Angel grabbed the vampire's neck and snapped it. Buffy could hear all the separate bones cracking and she winced.
The vampire collapsed to the ground. The body combusted into ashes, and Angel turned around. His face transforming into human. Buffy stood against the headstone in shock. Half of her happy he was here, another part untrusting and scared. Angel stared at her for a few seconds. "Buffy." He whispered. Cold tears running down his cheeks. Buffy stood mesmerized. Tears were also running down her cheeks. He walked toward her and collapsed to his knees. He hugged her legs and cried. Crying for all the pain he felt and had caused. Buffy stood silently. Tears streaming down her face. She put a hand on his shoulder. A symbol of forgiveness. He cried harder.
Part 8
She watched him sleep. His body twitched. His eyes moved back and forth underneath his eyelids, and she could see his fists clench. A tear ran down his cheek. Buffy looked at him sadly. She bent down to whisper in his ear. "Sleep well my love. I couldn't save you then, and for that I am sorry. But every night since you've been gone I've saved you in my dreams. I save you now. My Angel. Don't be afraid, because every night when you are asleep, I'll hold you. I'll watch you. I'll save you. You were gone and now you are back. Back like an Angel sent from above. My guardian Angel." She kissed his cold, pale cheek and wiped away his tears. Angel smiled gently, and his features relaxed. Buffy stood up and walked toward the door. She twisted the nob and looked back at Angel. The darkness surrounded him like a blanket. She smiled and left.
The End
