Chapter 1
"It was the best of times. It was the worst of times." –From "A Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens
3000. It was a year much the same as the past 50 years. Humans living on the moon, space colonies, Alien communications. It is time to tell the story of the ones who ended the war. War between Earth and Space. Human vs. Human. A thing that has been going on for as long as mankind could remember. Even though murders, pollution, stealing was there, war was there right along with it. Aliens watched the war with awareness. They knew one side or another would win, and they wanted Space to win.
Many opposed to the war. Humans who lived on Space Colony 002: Venus (the one closest to the Earth,) disagreed greatly with the war. Space Colony 003: Mars, however, cheered it on. Earth was going down, in their opinion. Space Colony 004: Jupiter gave great shocks of lighting to Earth when their "Zapper059" was charged powerful enough, which is about every five years. Colony 005: Saturn just attacked anybody who came near the colony with an armed ship, making them more on Earth’s side. Colony 006: Uranus just wanted complete power over everybody, and was hoping to make peace with Earth, who, in their opinion, was winning the war. Colony 007: Neptune was after one thing: Earth’s water, and had one goal: to get Earth’s water supply. Colony 008: Pluto the smallest of the colonies, and just wanted to be neutral. Pluto, of course, was in danger of being attacked by either side, because either side would want to make them be on their side, so they crated "Freeze Master 88," the largest freeze ray ever created. The last of the space colonies was the main colony, the boss, the moon, which was later, much after the war, decided to be named Nickel.
The Nickel family was very opposed to the war. The five children, who weren’t children anymore, of the family was very interested in peace between humans, however, towards aliens they wanted them to go down. Everything the five did was together. When they vowed to end the war, they went out in search of a child which they could go and train, and, finally, end the war. William Nickel was the oldest of the five, followed by Peter, then Janet, Jack, and, finally, Richard. They were a wealthy family living on Earth. They had everything they needed. They had the greatest thing: power over the people. And with this power came the five teenagers, who ended the war.
Jason Edwards was a little baby when his parents went to serve in the war. He was left at a children’s home. Every night he would look up in sky and wonder if his parents were all right. He had a picture of them from their wedding, and sometimes he wondered if they still looked like that now. Sometimes when he was really upset he would kick, scream, and punch things or, even, other children. He had every wish to see them again; going into space might be his only chance. That chance never came, not until a man named William Nickel came to the home when Jason was five.
Cory Fazel liked to mess around with his uncle’s computer. At the ripe age of three, he crashed it. Cory’s uncle looked the door to the computer room after that. Cory figured out how to turn the lock and would mess with the computers again and again. He was so interested in computers that, finally, his uncle went out and bought an old, very out of date, lab top just for him, and a few computer games, as well. Cory played with it everyday, and was happy to have it. Sometimes, his uncle couldn’t take him anymore, and just locked Cory in the closet. From then on he placed the lab top in the closet. His uncle locked him more and more in the closet, and he drunk more and more. Cory would spend hours to a full day in there. His "evil-uncle" problem was solved when a man, who claimed to be his godfather, came and took him away. Peter Nickel promised to get him a better lab top; Cory was the happiest five-year-old then.
Violet Yen was a dancer since she was three. A graceful girl, much like her famous dancer mother, Madeline Yen. She was a speaker, much like her peacemaker father, David Yen. She was loved by many people, and cared about everyone, even the smallest of her dolls. During one her father’s speeches strange men holding guns entered, and wanted to shoot David, but Madeline got in the way and died. They shot again, and David fell with a few other people. Violet was told that during these times she was to get down and hide. A lady walked over to Violet’s side; she was holding a gun too, but she was shooting at the people who had shot her father. David died a few hours later in the hospital, but before he died he thanked the lady, who said her name was Janet. David was so glad that Violet wasn’t hurt that he said Janet could have whatever she wanted. Janet replied by asking for his five-year-old daughter. David died a sad death, and a few days later, Violet moved in with Janet.
Matt Gondall watched war movies since he was four. His favorite was the Chinese-American War of 2414. The explosions were beautiful, in his opinion. He never met his real parents, when he was a baby he had moved from home to home. There were no known relatives. He never wondered who they were, or what they were like. Once he was sent to a children’s home, and met a boy named Jason, who never met his parents either. However, Jason wanted to meet his parents. They talked, but never got very far. When he had to leave he didn’t even say bye. One fateful day, when he was in a home, a man named Jack came and said he was a friend of his father’s, who died. Matt didn’t care. He just went along; as long as he had a place to cover him from the rain, he didn’t care.
Mark Blade was a plain five-year-old boy. He was left at the door of a bar called "Blade," thus the last name Blade. Mark was his dad’s name, or, so, that’s what the note read. His mother was sixteen, and couldn’t handle a baby. Mark was taken in by the bar owner, Richard Nickel. Richard raised him for a couple of years.
The Nickels waited until the year 2991 when each child was 6 years old. That was when they told them why.
