The stock Mustang GT front brakes consist of 10.8" diameter x 1.0" rotors and 66mm single piston calipers. At the rear there are 10" diameter solid rotors and single piston 38mm Varga calipers. They are adequate for everyday use but for spirited driving, the front brakes in particular need to be upgraded to increase stopping power.

'94-'98 Cobra Front Brake Kit

I opted for the 13.0" x 1.1" KVH rotors and 38x38mm dual piston PBR calipers from a junkyard '98 Mustang Cobra. This is an easy bolt-on upgrade with parts that are readily available from Ford dealerships or from Ford Racing. Wheel rim diameter must be at least 17" in order to provide the necessary clearance from the calipers. The parts required are the rotors, calipers, caliper brackets, bracket-to-spindle bolts, hoses, hose-to-caliper banjo bolts, pads, and brake fluid. There's no need to replace the stock master cylinder. The installation procedure is the same as for the stock GT brakes.
Having performed this upgrade on my Mustang, brake pedal feel is noticeably firmer and the car feels like it'll stop on a dime, inspiring confidence when it's necessary to brake hard. A definite thumbs up.
