Content of Site:Scene Summaries Rating:Review:To my mind, the particular benefit of this site is that it can be used as a very brief study guide for any pupil studying Macbeth for GCSE. While it contains many of the same feature as other Macbeth sites, in each case the information is provided in a very condensed fashion as well as in greater depth elsewhere. For example, in the Scene Summaries, the entire play is summarised, scene-by-scene, on one page. By simply clicking on the link for any scene a more detailed summary is available, but I think that this one page version would serve as an excellent aide memoir to pupils during revision. Similarly, the Character Reviews are available in one page format, with links to more complete profiles of each of the characters. In the section entitled Macbeth Index, pupils can read a brief synopsis of elements of Macbeth's character under the headings;
Then by clicking on any one of these headings, they can access an extended account of that aspect of Macbeth's character with supporting quotes. This format is continued in the Themes and Motifs section which looks at the prevalent themes in the play such as blood, fair and foul, nature and the unnatural, etc. In the Word Search section, pupils can look for any word which appears in the play. For example, if someone wanted to access a particular speech in the play but could only remember a few key words, by typing these words into the Word Search, the speech will appear. In the final section of the site, AC Bradley Answers your Questions on Macbeth, is a list of frequently asked questions, with brief answers containing links to more comprehensive answers. It is this format throughout each area of the site which leads me to believe that students would find this site of particular value. While the website does contain as much information as many other sites, it is these all-on-one-page versions of the information which could be printed, photocopied and used as a quick reminder by revising students, while still having the option of finding further, more in depth information if required.
