The Pecan Tree
Around the curve so quickly,
my life passes before me.
A twist of fate changed my life,
and an old pecan tree.
Its limbs hang ever lowly,
as if it's trying to weep.
A few green nuts hang on it,
new life it tries to keep.
The wind, the rain and my son,
have taken a toll on that tree.
Its bark torn and tattered,
somehow looks like me.
Life will go on now,
they say that's how it must be.
Just as a young life ended,
at the trunk of that pecan tree.
