There are a number of items around the house that you should be careful of using around your pets. Also, some foods can also cause problems. Here are some useful links for lists of poisons and advice and how to avoid them.

According to the Hamsters FAQ, hamsters cannot take the following medicine (if your vet has prescibed any, you can perhaps ask for an alternative):

• streptomycin dihydrostreptomycin
• all penicillins (any antibiotic ending in "-illin")
• lincomycin
• clindamycin
• erythromycin
• tylosin
• some cephalosporins
• ampicillin
• amoxycillin
• tetracycline

I include this one as Singapore is almost always hot and more oft than not, scorching. It's always therefore wise to make sure that your pets aren't getting the brunt of the heat wave.
