Jon got bitten by the acting bug while hanging out on the set composing for the film Young Guns II (1990).
In 1988 Jon played himself in The Return of Bruno, a hilarious rock comedy also starring Bruce Willis, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, Micheal J. Fox, Dick Clark, Elton John, and Billy Graham.

Out on video MAY 15th 2001 is Pay It Forward.
Directed by Mimi Leder , Pay it Forward tells the tale of A young boy who attempts to make the world a better place after his teacher gives him that chance. The film also stars Kevin Spacey,Haley Joel Osment, and Helen Hunt (imdb). Jon plays Ricky, the estranged father of Haley Joel's character, Trevor.
This movie is GREAT.
A Classic script, mixed with pleasing direction and wonderful acting, Pay It Forward should not be missed.

For Now, go BUY Jon's Submarine movie U-571. The film is about a U.S. Navy submarine captain on a risky mission to swipe a decoding device from a stranded German ship (imdb). Directed by Jonathan Mostow and written by Sam Montgomery, Jonathan Mostow, and former U.S. Navy sonarman David Ayer the film was in production in Rome for 8 weeks begining on January 25th 1999, then in Malta for 8 more weeks, and wrapped up Russia. The $90 million De Laurentiis produced feature (also starring Matthew McConaughey, Bill Paxton, Harvey Keitel, Jake Weber, David Keith, and Matthew Settle), was number ONE at the box office for the first two weeks of it's release!!!
