CHOREO NITE
The heat that prevailed since we
resumed our travails in IIT way back in August seems to have
cooled down, thanks to some heavy continual downpour since
October. But, on the contrary, the internal heat in the
"real and enthu-filled" junta of ALAK is being
augmented at an exponential rate. The resulting flame has led
them to persevere and achieve anything and everything under the
sun.
One such achievement was the result of their perseverance on the
night of choreo competition. Alak stood second out of the 10-odd
groups that participated that night, behind Sarayu-A (Now where
did these ogresses loupe come from? Cool guys, they are, as a
line in Kannada goes-"Aatakke untu lakkakke illa" which
is construed as "In the game, but not counted". You
know what I am hinting at.)
It all began amidst cackling, squalling and cacophony in the
semi-plethoral existence of jobless junta in SAC on the 16th of
October at 8 pm, all ebullient to cheer their respective hostels
and more so to boo and churlishly condemn other hostels. Even
Profs and their families had turned up, in quite a good number.
The first to perform among the groups was Sarayu-A, wherein the
females austerely danced to some boisterous mixture of Hindi,
English and Tamil songs. It looked like a bunch of commandoes
with black raiment and scarves on their faces to conceal their
identity, eddying around on a parade ground. A vague question
from one of the judges followed, to which the
"director" of the dance gave an equally vague answer
and everything around seemed vague for a moment.
This was followed by a dance from another hostel, not quite
mentioning. Then came Alak's showtime. They began with the much
expected aplomb and grace. Everything went well as per
expectations (actually, there were few glitches and poorly
synchronized steps) for the first minute or so, and then
something totally dreaded by the organizers happened. There was a
powercut . But junta enjoyed the darkness. There were lights
everywhere again in fifteen minutes, and Alak junta had to
restart. This time few of the mistakes had been rectified and
Alak junta in the audience were really excited about the way
things were going. And what rotten luck, they had to start all
over again when current played hide and seek, once more. This
cumbrance did not dampen our dancers' spirits, who appeared near
professionals, and they finished with the same zest they'd
started off with. Then followed the performances from other
groups, some making sense and others being mere splurges. But one
thing worth mentioning is, whether the shows were good or bad,
all of them, but for Sarayu and few perfunctory ones had a theme
in common, symbolizing the contemporary world. Theme wise, all
were original, well organized and managed.
In the meantime, few of our enthu freshies were up to something
totally different; all engrossed in directly and symbolically
abusing Sarayuites. This went on for quite some time until one of
our seniormen came down and asked them to behave within limits.
To be candid, even I chasten that their behaviour was
reprehensible. Later, the guys cooled down.
The competition ended and everybody waited for the results
expectantly. Ganga was given third and the first two are already
known all Alakites were ecstatic and literally on cloud nine.
Even though Sarayu-A's surprise appearance on the top was
diabolical, the fact was easily digested after Alak still managed
to lead in "the game".
The memories of choreo-nite, adored by Alak's victory, will long
cherish in every Alakite's mind. And for Barry, Beedi, Aviral,
Satcho, Gaana, Dildo, Sixer, Nawaab, Anoop, BHU and Viggy, Kudos
for keeping Alak's spirits sky high. Let us hereby collectively
declare October 16th as the day when Alak set a paradigm of
perseverance.
