FROM THE LIT-SEC
My
dear Alakites,
This will be the one of the last letters that I’ll be writing to
you from Alak. I will like to point out that its indeed very senti for me to
put these words. (I think I’ll b later for saying this! Nevertheless…)
I would like to start with the latest happenings in
the hostel i.e. The Alak Nite or should I say Malgudi Nites! Three
cheers to all the Alakites who worked their balls off to make it a
great success. There are so many names, which I’ll like to take but I think the
editorial team will kill me if I again write a six-page article!! We all know
who worked so I will thank all of You who came forward to work together despite
differences between us. I hope that in future you all will set aside your
personal differences and work for the hostel as one.
The programs went well (as expected). Raka, Shaala and Ivin
arranged games for us on hostel nite, which as usual were fun to play. We had
some good songs in Light Music.
Then came the TOAST!! It was very well researched, well written and well presented. I
will take this opportunity to thank all our juniors to give us this beautiful & senti farewell. This
was even made more senti by Gadha singing that apt song from John Denver’s
album:
“I’m leaving on a jet plane, Don’t
know when I’ll be back again”
I would here like to thank QT, K2, % and Boondi (and
all the others who put their mind on paper for them to speak) for doing a
stupendous job. What can I say? I hope you guys also get a toast like we 4th yearites got from you!!
Of course the prize item of the Nite was the freshie
skit. A friend of mine asked me “Where
are the mikes da?” To which I replied, “No
mikes needed da!” He didn’t understand “a
skit without mikes, nobody will hear their dialogues!!” I told him “wait and watch…” After the skit my
friend was spell bounded. He was all praise for the wonderful Alak freshies who
had done a novel experiment!! Keep it up Bapu, Satcho, Negi, Spy, Topi, Siddhu,
Romi – you guys did a wonderful job!!
Aandoo the *aandoo was a fun skit based on our
beloved Aandoo!! He never minded it and gave permission to us to go on…. Aandoo
you are great as those who can laugh at themselves are great da!
Then Ivin & Sharat took us to Mallu land with a beautiful
Mallu song, followed by one and only JD!! It was a spirited performance and we
should thank JD for turning up and showing us his talent. I would like to thank
the other people like Demi & Pinky who put enthu for our hostel nite.
Although their friends got a bit carried away!!
Talking of Music, the impromptu performance by % and
Catoor and Gadha was delightful. “KEEP THE FAITH %!!”
Last but not the least was the roast. Now junta I would like
to make one thing very clear: “In roast whatever is said is to be taken as
a joke and not to be taken seriously. Its just a way for us seniors to pull
your legs!!”
I know that saying that COORG is unimaginative is
like telling Chandola (that’s me!!) “You
are not a fart box!!” Obviously
we all know that Coorg is anything but unimaginative… I mean a person who takes
responsibility to publish KALA TRAMS, who puts the hi-funda idea of 60 x 60
matrix into action, so what was said in the roast was just leg pulling. Same is
the case with Dheeraj. I grant that not everyone is perfect and Dheeraj was
also not perfect and he goofed up certain things… so we decided to take up a
dig at him. I mean almost all of us who worked for hostel nite know how much
Dheeraj worked. We also know that if there is a civil – electrical complaint in
a room then it has to be lodged in the complaint register in the office
(anybody who comes to GBM’s will know this…the Wardi always insists on this!!).
A Gen-Sec comes into the picture when something that affects the hostel as a
whole comes into the picture, not for individual complaints.
I can’t go on clarifying about the roast one by one,
but by the above two examples that I have given it will be clear that we didn’t
mean any harm just joking. As our own cult mantra goes:
“Dil pe mat ley yaar, Haath mein ley!!”
With this I will end up my review of hostel nite.
Talking about Lit-Soc for the year 2000-2001. This year the Gymkhana has taken a decision
that the trophy will not be awarded!!
This is due to the fact that major group events like
Choreo, Fete, LM/WM group and few finals could not be completed. Only two
thirds of the Lit-Soc (point wise) was completed. Anyway 40 points separated
the top five hostels!! That means we who were a close fifth had a very good
shot at hitting atleast third in LIT-SOC if not first or second!! I would like
to thank all the people who have put enthu for the inter hostel LIT – SOC
events.
I would like to thank especially all the freshies who put fight for Alak.
This was evident in events like Treasure Hunt and Dramatics. Keep it up Boys!!
You always gave me a chance to say to other hostel people
“My boys did
well, they are the best!!” Thanks a lot!!
For the second yearites some of you were wonderful like Parande,
Shyam, Lesbo, Raga, BHU (again the list is endless so …I’ll use…) etc (easy way out for me!). Others have so much enthu and
potential to do it as a group. There is no dearth of enthu in you, just don’t
let it die!!
What can I say for the intra – hostel LIT – SOC
winners? You were amazing when you came as freshies, and I hope you are
wonderful as jobless 4th years!! Now you’ll be the only people in the hostel who
have seen 120 Lit – Soc points as Alak tally. I hope you will put enthu and
screw up Gadha and Chari to win Lit – Soc.
That’s all folks…. as usual I have gone overboard in
my senti state!! I would like to thank once more all of you and ask for your
pardon in terms of things which I could not do e.g. Library. I am sorry I lost
all enthu about Lib and pained you guys. Hoping that you forgive me.
Have a nice time in Alak and keep in touch with us
seniors.
Au Revoir,
Yours truly,
Abhinav Chandola.
