REACH OUT TO YOUR WILDER SIDE
GUYS, I HOPE YOU HAVEN’T MISTAKEN THIS FOR SOMETHING FRIVOLOUS OR FUNNY. HOWEVER, IT’S ABOUT SOMETHING THAT CAN GIVE YOU AS MUCH JOY IF YOU LEARNT TO APPRECIATE IT.ELFIN! THIS IS AN ARTICLE ABOUT NATURE AND THE HAPPINESS IT BRINGS.
HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A TIGER WALK IN THE WILD, THE ELEGANCE THAT IT PERSONIFIES AND THE AUTHORITY WITH WHICH IT MOVES? IT’S A PLEASURE TO WATCH. A PEOCOCK’S DANCE TO ANNOUNCE THE ARRIVAL OF THE MONSOON, THE ATHLETICISM AND THE ELUSIVENESS OF THE INDIAN LEOPARD, THE GENTLENESS OF THE ELEPHANTS ALSO BRING IMMENSE JOY AND AWE.
THE NEED TO CONSERVE:
INDIA’S DIVERSE AND UNIQUE WILDLIFE IS UNDER THREAT BECAUSE OF THE
VESTED INTERESTS OF SOME INDIVIDUALS. FORESTS, WHICH ONCE COVERED A MAJOR PART
ARE, CONFINED TO JUST 20% OF THE TOTAL AREA. WHAT HAS ONCE BEEN DESTROYED CAN
NEVER BE RECOVERED AGAIN. RAIN FORESTS ARE BEING DESTROYED AT WILL BRINGING
INDIA’S UNIQUE RAIN-FOREST FAUNA UNDER THREAT.THERE WERE 40000 TIGERS AT THE
TURN OF THE LAST CENTURY. ONLY 2000 TO 3000 TIGERS LIVE IN THE WILD NOW. IF THE
TREND CONTINUES, NOTHING WILL REMAIN BY THE END OF THE 21st CENTURY.
HABITAT DESTRUCTION AND POACHING ARE THE MAJOR THREATS TO INDIA’S
WILDLIFE. POORLY EQUIPPED FOREST GUARDS, UNWILLING POLITICIANS AND LOOPHOLES IN
THE WILDLIFE LAW ADD TO THE MISERY OF THE SITUATION. HOWEVER EVERYTHING IS NOT
LOST, THERE ARE SOME DEDICATED INDIVIDUALS SUCH AS FATEH SINGH RATHORE, VALMIK THAPAR, ULLAS KARANTH, SHEKHAR DATTATRE AND SOME OTHERS WHO ARE DEDICATED TO CONSERVING INDIA’S WILDLIFE,
BUT THEY NEED HELP. UNLESS EVERY ONE OF US TRIES TO CONTRIBUTE WHAT WE CAN, THE
SITUATION WILL ONLY WORSEN.
THINGS WE CAN DO:
# CREATING AWARENESS ABOUT THE
PRESENT SITUATION AND IT’S AFTER AFFECTS.
# WRITING LETTERS TO HIGHER
AUTHORITIES TO HIGHLIGHT OUR OPINION ON THE PRESENT SITUATION.
# COLLECTING FUNDS FOR THE
WELFARE OF THE FOREST SECURITY GUARDS, TRAINING AND EQUIPMENT.
“HOPE AND HOPE FOR THE VERY BEST.” UNLESS WE HAVE HOPE AND DO OUR
BEST, OUR FUTURE GENERATIONS WILL NEVER KNOW HOW NATURAL INDIA WAS.
“WE HAVE OVER THE YEARS, TURNED INTO PASSIVE SILENT SPECTATORS, WE WATCH THE HORROR STORY UNFOLD IN FRONT OF OUR EYES EACH DAY”
-VALMIK THAPAR
SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT WE CAN DO ARE WELCOME.
