Penney Named Second-Team All-District

Wis. -
Wisconsin junior guard Kirk Penney was honored with an NABC/Pontiac second-team
all-district selection, the National Association of Basketball Coaches
announced today. Penney leads the Badgers in scoring at 14.4 points per game,
11th in the Big Ten. He was named conference player of the week twice, on Dec.
24 and Dec. 31.
Wisconsin is
located in District 11. The District 11 first team consists of Frank Williams
(Illinois), Dwayne Wade (Marquette), David Bailey (Loyola), Marcus Taylor
(Michigan State) and Henry Domercant (Eastern Illinois). Joining Penney on the
second team are LaVell Blanchard (Michigan), Rick Rickert (Minnesota), Brian
Cook (Illinois) and Clay Tucker (UW-Milwaukee). All honorees are now eligible
for the NABC/Pontiac Division I all-American team to be announced at the end of
the season.
Penney has
led the UW to a 14-11 record, a 7-5 mark in the Big Ten, good for fourth place.
His 33-point performance against Marquette on Dec. 22 is the most for a Big Ten
player this season. He has also recorded three “double-doubles,” including in
each of the last two games.
Wisconsin
takes on first-place Indiana tonight at 7 p.m. The game will be televised
locally by WISC-TV.
