Orenstein & Koppel Coaches

Original Number of Seats: 96 (ordinary coach)
Identifying External Features: Round sloping profile of roof at both ends of the coach.
Notes:
Starting in 1989 all coaches of this type were converted to half-generator/half-passenger coaches.
Coach no. 56 was further converted in 1996 to full generator coach.

Carel Fouché Coaches
('CarF', 'French Coaches')

Entered service in Israel: 1961
Original Number of Seats: Ordinary coach - 96 ; Buffet coach - 62
Identifying External Features: Near-rectangular profile except for a slight sloping of the roof at both ends of the coach.
In the mid-1960's all the coaches of this type had their gangways upgraded, which included the addition of a trapeze shaped bulge at both ends of the coaches.
Notes:
The coaches' interior arrangements and seat numbers were greatly altered during their working lives.

Stainless-Steel B10½t Coaches
('French Coaches')

Original Number of Seats: Upon entering Israel Railways service - 84
(several coaches had extra seats added)
Identifying External Features: Unpainted stainless-steel external finish (becomes brown-tinted when the coaches are dirty)
Inwards opening one-part doors.
Notes:
Originally built for the French Railways (SNCF) between 1959-1966 as A9 1st class coaches of the series DEV-Inox. Later converted to 2nd class coaches with the current designation.
Purchased in 1994 by Ha'Argaz, Israel, as part of their contract for refurbishing Israel Railways coaches, and later transferred to Israel Railways.
Operated exclusively as homogenous sets with the exception of an added generator coach.

Notes:
Originally built in the second half of the 1950's as middle units of the Esslingen railcar sets and were originally withdrawn from service in the late 1970's.

Boris Kidric Coaches
('Yugo', 'Metalka', 'Yugoslav Coaches')

Entered service in Israel: 1964-1972
Original Number of Seats: ordinary coach - 96 ; buffet coach - 79
Identifying External Features: Angular sloping profile of roof at both ends of the coach.
Recessed entrance doors.
Notes:
The coaches' interior arrangements and seat numbers were greatly altered during their working lives.
Coach no. 610 was converted to half-generator/half-passenger coach (similar conversion to that of the O-Ko coaches).
Other coaches of this type were converted in to full generator coaches.

Mk. IIC Coaches
('British Coaches')

Identifying External Features: Considerably smaller overall dimensions than tose of all other Israel Railways passenger coaches of their time. The entrance doors are situated at the coaches' corners.
Notes:
Originally built in 1970 and purchased second-hand from British Rail (BR) for use as reserved-seats coaches, due to their interior design being superior to that in other Israel Railways coaches at the time.
All coaches of this type are now withdrawn from Israel Railways service.
