FRANK SALLINGER dob June 15, 1848

From an article found in the History of Hall County, Nebraska, a biography
of Frank Sallinger states--- Frank Sallinger, one of Hall County's well
known and respected citizens, now lives in comfortable retirement in Grand
Island, Ne, after almost forty years of active life here as a farmer. He
came to Hall County in 1879 and has never felt inclined to leave. (Note:
Another family researcher has found evidence that Frank and Margaret were
in Howard County in 1900 and their farm assets were sold in Hamilton County
in 1913) Frank was born in Westmoreland County, Pa, June 15,
1848, the son of Alda (name not proven)Sallinger and Mary Cokenour Sallinger.
In the country schools near his fathers farm in Westmoreland County, Frank
obtained the usual education of the farmer boy of that period, becoming
useful on the farm home by the age of 12 and farming pursuits interested
him ever since. On December 31, 1871, Mr. Sallinger married Miss
Margaret Cairns in McKeesport, Pa. In 1879, he moved his family from
his native state to Hall County, Ne settling in the Prarie Creek Community
where he continued to farm until 1913. He than retired and moved
into Grand Island, locating in his comfortable home at No. 1836, Lafayette
Avenue. Mr. Sallinger is a member of the Trinity Methodist Episcopal
Church, Grand Island. He has never desired to hold public office
but has been interested in the development of this section as a good citizen.
He votes with the Republican party. Frank passed
away December 6, 1928 and is buried in Grand Island Cemetery, Hall County,
Nebraska

MARGARET CAIRNS SALLINGER dob
December 11, 1851 Died March 14, 1916
Margaret was born in Northumberland County, England December 11, 1851
and emigrated to the United States with her parents in July1854.
Her parents were natives of England. Her fathers name is John Cairns and
reportedly in Frank's biography, passed away during the voyage and
was buried at sea. (Note: A family researcher has evidence
that their toddler son James was burned with scalding hot coffee, died
and was buried at sea--not John). No ships record has been found
to verify this as yet. Her mothers name is Elizabeth Elliott who
later married August Knittle in McKeesport, PA. After Margaret's
marriage to Frank Sallinger, they became the parents of seven children,
two having preceded her in death. Mother Maggie Sallinger passed away at
her home in West Lawn, Grand Island, Ne March 14, 1916 and is buried in
Grand Island Cemetery, Hall County, Ne.
Children of Frank and Margaret are: Charles; Edward; Frank
Eliot; Mary
Jane (Jennie); and William.
Preceding her in death were John Richard, age 1 yr and Cynthia Ann, age
1 month.
