Whatever form of self-injury is used, the person is usually left with a feeling of relief afterwards. But whether it be cutting, burning, hitting oneself, hair pulling or any other injurous behaviour, the relief is ONLY TEMPORARY and the person will probably continue to hurt themselves until they deal with the underlying issues and finds less destructive ways to cope with feelings.

People who self-harm often keep thier behaviours a secret because they feel that what they do is 'bad' or 'shameful'. It is important for people who self-harm to REACH OUT for help. It is nothing to be ashamed of...and you are not alone.
