OVERWHELMING SUPPORT FOR NEW ROAD.

Residents were generally delighted with the plans exhibited by Councillor Adrian Hobson. During a 6 hours period, hundreds of residents attended and almost all were happy with the proposals.

Drawings and aerial photographs helped show just where the road will go and a number of helpful suggestions were made which Adrian will be exploring further.

We were disappoined when some of our opponents turned up to carp and complain and generally spoil the event. Some of them lived outside the village and are unaffected by the problem. We remain concerned that they are trying to sabotage the scheme. In our earlier stories you can see why we don't trust them! Remember on June 10th a vote for Plaid Cymru is a vote for a new road.

OUR EARLIER STORIES CONTINUE BELOW.

On 26 January 2004 your Plaid Cymru Council allocated a budget for the completion of the Taff's Well Relief Road linking Moy Road Industrial Estate with the Park and Ride.

Councillor Adrian Hobson said "after 25 years of inactivity by our opponents a Plaid Cymru Council has been able to fund the road within 5 years of taking office despite inheriting massive debts built up by an incompetent Labour Party".

"This is great news for the village. HGVs and cars can now leave the village via the Park and Ride without using Cardiff Road. Highway safety will be improved and the environment will benefit greatly. Fumes, noise and vibration will all be removed from the centre of our village. The quality of life for residents on Cardiff Road will be massively improved. At the same time there will be benefits fro business and employment opportunities because of enhanced access to the industrial estate. It's a win-win scenario.".

The project has always been given the highest possible priority by Rhondda Cynon Taf. Assistance has also been offered in recent times Professor Delme Bowen and Owen John Thomas AM.It was a pity that our own AM did so little!

With the funding in place Councillor Adrian Hobson will now meet with engineers and others to oversee the tender and construction phase of the work. It is expected that this can take place during the Summer but we will be pressing for the earliest possible start because we know more than anyone what an enormous benefit this road will be to residents.

Updates on progress will be posted to this site. Add this page to your favourites or scroll down to the bottom of our home page to join our mailing list and get news as soon as it's available.

Our earlier story continues below as a reminder of the miserable track record of our opponents.

Hard work from Plaid, empty promises from our opponents!

Here are some facts.

  • The last (Labour) administration promised to build it but never provided a budget because they were in disarray and effectively bankrupt.

  • We discovered that the design was not finished and have provided another £20,000 to complete it.

  • Essential sewerage work along the line of the road is now in progress.

  • The road is a high priority for your Council.

  • It would have been submitted for Objective 1 funding except we were obstructed by "rule changes" introduced by the Welsh Assembly Government (the Lib Lab coalition)

  • It is now ready to go into the next bidding round for Objective 1.

Our opponents are spinning a lie that Plaid has promised to build the road. We have not. We prefer to work towards delivering it rather than making promises.

However, it seems our opponents need reminding about their own empty promises. The picture below is worth waiting for....

They said, "This long-awaited road will now be constructed using European funds in conjunction with financial help fromthe Labour-controlled Mid Glamorgan County Council".

The local and County Councillor both endorsed this promise which appears to have been brokered by Wayne David MEP (now MP for Caerffili after being beaten by Plaid in Rhondda).

So what did they do with our money? Councillor Adrian Hobson wrote last month to Ms Jane Davidson, Labour's AM asking if she could shed light on whether this was just an empty promise or whether the money was subsequently redirected. It's been weeks [NB Now MONTHS!], but no reply.

You can rely on Plaid to continue to work toward delivering the road that will be such a huge benefit to the community. There'll be no promises and we'll never stoop to lying as our opponents often do.

"The Road has always been the most important long-term issue for Taff's Well.

Traffic can be now diverted from the village greatly improving the quality of life.It also opens up opportunities for new road layouts to discourage through traffic.

Our opponents tried their best to stop Plaid Cymru bringing this benefit to Taff's Well. They did nothing to help. They didn't campaign and they failed to do anything to help get Objective 1 funding. People will remember that.
