STRIKING AN ARC-
THE FIRST AND EASIEST WAY IS THE SCRATCH METHOD,SCRATCH THE ELECTRODE LIKE A MATCH.THE SECOND METHOD IS THE TAP METHOD.IN BOTH METHODS AS SOON AS THE ARC APEARS ,THE ELECTRODE IS RAISED ABOUT 1/8 OF AN INCHTHEN BROUGHT BACK DOWN TO ABOUT 1/16.IF THIS ARC LENGHT IS NOT MAINTAINED IT WILL RESULT IN POOR QUALITY WELDS.IF ARC LENGHT IS TOO SHORT THE BEAD WILL BE HIGH AND NARROW.IF THE ARC LENGHT IS TOO LONG THE BEAD WILL BE LOW ABD WIDE.
MAKING A RESTART-MAKE SURE THE CRATER AREA IS CLEAN THEN RESTRIKE THE ARC ABOUT 1/4" AHEAD OF THE CRATER AND THEN MOVE BACK TO THE BACK OF THE CRATER AND CONTINUE AHEAD.
BEADS-BEAD SIZE-11/2 TIMES THE DIAMETER OF THE ELECTRODE
WEAVES-MAXIMUM WIDTH OF WEAVES SHOULD BE 3 TIMES THE DIAMETER OF ELECTRODE.
