Chapter Two
The next morning, Summer got up and finished packing. She didn’t have time
for breakfast, so she grabbed some coffee in a travel mug and her mom
drove her to the airport.
“Now, Summer, do you have everything?”
“Yes. mom. Don’t worry. I’ll be fine.”
“Oh, I know. I’ll just miss you. Besides, I’m supposed to worry. Well,
it’s almost 7:30. Go meet Erica.”
“Ok. Bye, mom. Love you!”
“Me, too, Summer.”
Summer went and checked her bags except for her backpack. She
hung around and then decided to call Erica from her cell phone.
RING! RING! RING!
“Yeah?” said Erica, who had just woken up.
“Erica! Our plane leaves in 15 minutes!” Summer shouted into the
phone.
Erica sat straight up. “Oh, no! I slept in! Not to worry. I’ll just take
the next flight out. Remember, we’re staying at the Plaza. Got to jet! Ciao!”
She hung up, leaving Summer staring at the phone in her hand.
“I’m gonna kill her,” she mumbled to herself as she ran to the gate.
Once on the plane, she found a window seat and and began reading a
magazine. Suddenly, someone sat in the seat next to her. She turned her
head and saw a guy wearing a sweatshirt, windpants, a Lakers cap and
sunglasses. He also had a goatee that badly needed shaved. Summer decided
he was weird, but didn’t give him much thought.
“Hey,” the guy with the goatee said.
“Hi,” Summer answered, and then went back to her magazine. She
then decided that this guy was REALLY weird, so she put on her headphones.
“Who are you listening to?”
Summer rolled her eyes. “The Backstreet Boys, IF you’ve ever heard
of them.”
The guy gave her a funny smile and nodded.
“What?” Summer asked defensively.
“Nothing. Never mind.”
Nick Carter looked at the girl next to him on the plane. ‘She is so
pretty,’ he thought. ‘Too bad she thinks I’m a weirdo. But what can I expect?
I’m dressed like.....a weirdo. Oh, well. At least she likes my singing.’ He smiled
to himself. ‘Oh, well. I have a girlfriend. And I’ll probably never see her again
after today, anyway.’
Just then, the stewardess’s voice came over the speakers. “Ladies and
gentlemen, we regret to inform you that due to turbulance in the air, we wil
be making an emergency landing. We will have to provide you all with hotel
rooms for the night.”
Suddenly, the plane hit a series of bumps, and
everybody gasped. The girl next to Nick reached out and grabbed his hand.
He smiled over at her. Then the plane landed with a huge jerk.
