Chapter Eight

“WAKE UP!!”

Summer put her pillow over head and snuggled under the covers. “Go away,” she said groggily.

Erica ignored her. “Summer, it’s almost noon. GET UP!!” No answer from under the pillow. “Fine. Brian and I are going out to lunch. You wanna come?” Still nothing. Erica sighed. “Alright, I take that as a ‘no’. Bye!” No answer. “BYE SUMMER!!” Erica shouted.

“Mm-hmmm,” moaned the pillow.

“At least she’s still alive,” Erica grumbled. She left the room and went down to the lobby, where Brian was waiting. “Sorry that took so long,” Erica said. “I wasn’t sure if Summer was alive or not.”

Brian smiled. “That’s OK,” he said. “So, where do you wanna go for lunch? Hard Rock Café?”

Erica looked at him. “Isn’t that place booked up for, like, the next hundred years?”

Brian shrugged. “Yeah. But I can pull some strings. Come on, let’s go. I even got us a limo.” They went outdside and got inside the white limo.

“Erica?”

“Hmm?” she asked as she got comfy. She sat down and put her head on his shoulder.

“What was wrong with Summer last night?”

“Well, even I’m not totally sure. Right before we came here, she had a huge break-up with her boyfriend. It was really messy and emotional. Then, on the plane, Nick fed her a pack of lies. Then he sends her flowers and makes her think he’s interested. And THEN she finds out he has a girlfriend. She’s had a rough time and I’m really sorry if she’s making you crazy.”

“Nah, that’s Ok. How did she find out about Mandah?”

“Carson Daly, the nosiet TRL host around.”

“Oh, I see. Speaking of all this, you’re single, right?”

“Maybe,” Erica said teasingly. “Depends on why you wanna know.”

“Fine, don’t tell me,” Brian replied. Trying to seem mad, he looked out the window.

“Oh, stop it. Yes, I’m single.”

“In that case, do you wanna...you know......go steady?”

Erica smiled. “I thought you’d never ask.” They looked into each other’s eyes and kissed. They didn’t even notice when they arrived at the restaurant 15 minutes later.
