LETTER FROM CRAIG
Message from Craig:
July 21, 2000
SO THE ALBUM IS OUT! AND AS YOU MOST PROBABLY KNOW BY NOW WE DEBUTED AT #9 THANKS TO EVERYONE OF YOU, THE HARDCORES!! EVERYBODY IS VERY EXCITED AND THANKFUL. I GUESS THAT MEANS WE GET TO RECORD AS MANY RECORDS AS WE WANT! IF YOU KEEP WANTING IT. I THINK ARTHUR EVEN SHED A TEAR WHEN HE FOUND OUT ABOUT YOU ALL RUSHING OUT TO HEAR HIS SONGS, VERY COOL THANK YOU ALL!
WELL, WE RECORDED THE LATE SHOW TODAY WITH CRAIG KILBORN. WE PREFORMED A ACOUSTIC VERSION OF "WONDERFUL" AND IT WAS THE FIRST TIME WE HAD DONE IT THAT WAY BUT SEEMED TO SOUND GOOD. THE PEOPLE THAT WERE IN THE AUDENCE WERE REALLY NICE. WE ARE ALSO RECORDING WITH THE E-ENTERTAINMENT CHANNEL NEXT WEEK AND THE LATER SHOW. WHEN I FIND OUT WHEN IT'S GONNA AIR I'LL LET YOU ALL KNOW.
WE TOOK A SMALL BREAK THIS LAST WEEK. ARTHUR REMIXED "AM RADIO" FOR A SINGLE RELEASE AND I WENT TO PORTLAND TO LOOK FOR A HOUSE. WHICH I FOUND A NICE PLACE IN PORTLAND AND I'M REALLY LOOKING FOWARD TO LIVING BACK IN PORTLAND. WHILE I WAS UP THERE ARTHUR HAD A BBQ AND WE INVITED OUR CREW AND FRIENDS TO HANG OUT AND HAD A GREAT TIME. I MISSED MY FRIENDS WHILE LIVING IN ATLANTA. WE ALL LIKE TO MEET AND GO BOWLING AND BBQ ALL THE TIME. EXCITING HUH? WE ALSO STARTED RECORDING VOCALS FOR "GOODTIME FOR A BAD ATTITUDE" AND WE WILL BE IN THE STUDIO UNTIL AUGUST 8TH WORKING HARD ON MAKING THIS A GREAT PROJECT WE ARE ALL PROUD OF.
THERE ARE A FEW RADIO FESTIVALS IN THE WORK FOR THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER. I THINK IT'S A TOTAL OF 6 BUT I WANNA CONFIRM THEM BEFORE I SPILL THE BEANS AND GIVE OUT BAD INFO.
I KNOW THERE ARE SOME OF YOU THAT ARE STARTING UP NEW WEB SITES AND I THINK IT'S GREAT. MAKE SURE YOU GIVE THE REST OF US THE LINK SO WE CAN ALL CHECK OUT YOUR HARD WORK. CUZ I KNOW HOW MUCH TIME IT TAKES TO PUT SOMETHING COOL TOGETHER. I'M SENDING IN SOME PHOTOS I SNAPPED OF THE KILBORN SHOW, NONE OF ME--ALL GREG AND ARTHUR. ENJOY!
THANKS EVERYONE.
LOVE,
CRAIG

Everclear Covers 'Brown-Eyed Girl'
(6/20/00, 1 p.m. ET) - Everclear's upcoming release, Songs From An American Movie, Vol. One: Learning
How To Smile, features a first for an album by the group -- a cover version of someone else's song. The
Portland, Oregon, trio tackled Van Morrison's classic tune, "Brown Eyed Girl," one of the most popular rock
songs of all time.
Vocalist/guitarist Art Alexakis explains to LAUNCH the approach to recording the classic. "I've always loved that song, it's always been one of my favorite songs," he says. "I like the way we do it; we do it like an Everclear song, but I think it really keeps the integrity of the song. To do a song like that in the same vein as Van Morrison is just, why? Why would you want to? It's still classic after all these years. So,
basically we tried to take the good aspects of that song and apply it to how we attack a song. And it came
out pretty cool."
Alexakis further comments, "I added some words to it, just to give it the aspect of making it fit into the
record."
Learning How To Smile will hit the streets on July 11. Its reportedly harder-hitting sequel, Songs From An
American Movie, Vol. Two: A Good Day For A Bad Attitude is slated for a fall release.

EVERCLEAR TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM JULY 11, 2000
NEW ALBUM
Everclear Set To Release First Of Two Cds
Songs From an American Movie, Vol. 1/Learning How To Smile‚ JULY 11 ON CAPITOL RECORDS; First Single WONDERFUL‚ With Video Directed By
Frontman ART ALEXAKIS, Set To Debut MAY 2000
Things are heating up for EVERCLEAR. The multi-platinum group, singer/songwriter ART ALEXAKIS, bassist CRAIG MONTOYA and drummer GREG EKLUND have just put the finishing touches on SONGS FROM AN AMERICAN MOVIE, VOL. I/LEARNING HOW TO SMILE, the first of two CDs to be released this year on Capitol Records. An ALEXAKIS-directed video for the first single
"Wonderful"--which will hit radio beginning May 22--is being shot in Los Angeles now.
The "Wonderful" single, like a lot of EVERCLEAR songs, is culled from the personal experience of Alexakis. The subtly poignant song is a view of divorce from a kid's eyes and relates the subsequent emotional upheaval, matched with a defiantly upbeat melody. A sample lyric: "I go to school and I run and play/ I tell the kids that it's all OK/I laugh a lot so my friends don't know that/When the bell rings I just don't want to go home."
Everclear will be releasing a second album in 2000, SONGS FROM AN AMERICAN MOVIE, VOL. 2/GOOD TIMES FOR A BAD ATTITUDE, this Fall.
