The Origin of Stray From Riot
Stray From Riot was originally conceived while four young men wearing uniforms for no apparent reason were watching a baseball game from the dugout. Dan mentioned that he might be getting a bass soon, and he, Nick, Zac, and Matt Freed ended up coming up with the idea of creating a noise-making group (no one except Dan was thinking "band" at this time). Although Matt later decided it really wasn't his thing (before they even really practiced once), Nick, Zac, and especially Dan stuck with the idea and eventually got together one Saturday afternoon and actually played some songs, which sounded to their surprise halfway decent, despite the lack of a drummer. It just so happens that at the high school the boys attend, there's a project called the Capstone Project which every student must complete by their senior year. Our three intrepid heroes decided to make a CD for this project - 10 tracks, five covers and five original songs. This is what they're in the process of doing now.
The Story of the Origin of the Name "Stray From Riot"
Well, this is quite the dumb, odd little story. When we first had the idea of forming an actual "band", our first action was not to get together, or think about songs to play, no, that would be too logical. It was to think of the best damn name in the history of bands (which we ultimately failed to do). So we started throwing names around and eventually Nick suggested a name with the word "Riot" in it. This was disregarded almost immedietely, as many were, but the word "Riot" seemed to stick in Zac's mind. The following day, in an online conversation, Zac began suggesting names to Nick. It soon became a series of names with the word "Riot" in them. After about 5 or 6 of them, Nick kindly asked Zac to "stray from riot names". This request was granted, and we continued the conversation. However, the next day, in yet another online conversation between Zac and Nick, Zac mentioned to Nick that he had said something yesterday that had stuck in the subconcious of Zac's mind. It was the words "Stray From Riot". And the rest, as they say, is history.
