Jim Cuddy

instruments

It`s all a case of surrounding yourself with the same kind of weird-o`s.

James Gordon Cuddy was born in Toronto on December 2, 1955, but his family moved when he was very young. He has since lived in Brantford, Montréal, and the USA. When he was in Btfd, he lived at 66 Elm St, and attended James Hiller School from grades 1, 2, and 3, for which he had the same teacher all three years. He was in the same grade 7 class as Anne Lindsay, who they have played with numerous times and who is a member of the JCB. He asked for his first guitar when he was 10. The first song he learned was Gordon Lightfoot`s "That`s What You Get For Loving Me." (He`s still a big Gordon Lightfoot fan.) His first song-writing experience came when he was 11 and he re-wrote some of the lyrics.

He first met Greg in a grade 11 math class at a Toronto high school. After high school they went to university, where Jim got a BA in English (bet that comes in handy when he`s writing songs). (At one time Jim was thinking about being a lawyer, and he was excepted into the program, but put it off for a few years to give music a try.)After university they formed the HiFis, which didn`t last too long. Then they went down to New York City and formed Fly To France, which Jim says was "a really stupid name." The band lasted three years before breaking up.

After that they came back to Toronto and put together Blue Rodeo with a few friends. Since then Jim has put out a solo album "All In Time", won Male Vocalist of the Year at the 1999 Junos for his solo album, and has helped make Blue Rodeo a very successful canadian band. Jim also plays with a recreational hockey league for Canadian musicians. He plays forward (usually wing) for the Black Stokes.

Jim is married to actress Rena Polley, and has three kids: Devin , Emma , and Sam.
