Paul Brandt - 2001

This was my first (and only) Paul Brandt concert. I probably wouldn`t have got to it if I didn`t like country and if I didn`t have friends at school that are big Paul Brandt (big enough fans to say that they are PB!).

This was one of the stops on his Small Towns & Big Dreams tour. He said they wanted to visit as many Canadian small towns as possible for this tour. He said they were also going to change the spelling of 'Brantford' to 'Brandtford' for the night.

The openers were both very good. I was actually surprised that Dick Reeves (from 820 Cham Country) was there. I always listen to 820 Cham, and had heard them talking about the concert, but they never said that he would be there also. That was a pleasant surprise. Aaron Lines was also very good. I knew his debut single "Love Changes Everything", thanks to 820 Cham, and he had everyone joining in on it. Then they took a 15 minute intermission before Paul came on. That`s when my friend passed me and said that their buddy was on next. They seemed quite happy about it, for some strange reason ;-).

Paul shared stories about Reba, having to get a picture taken with someone`s horse, going to a movie, the lady in the front seat with binoculars, people calling Liz (his wife) a babe, and concerts overseas. He also told us that it was the soundman Kyle`s birthday, so we all started singing Happy Birthday to Kyle. He also said that because it was his show, he could play whatever he wanted, and since he liked sad/slow songs, that`s all he was going to play (that`s where the tri-mix came in). And he sang us a divorce version of 'I Do'.

The show was great, and even though I didn`t stay to get Aaron`s autograph and pic, and didn`t talk to Dick out in the lobby during intermission, I did manage to get a 820 Cham Country sticker, and a "Paul Brandt: Small Towns, Big Dreams" hat. My mom also picked up a picture of Paul.

The concert was recorded to be mixed with others to produce a live album with all his new songs. The first song he changed some of the lyrics to sing "here in Brantford...", so I`m not sure what the actual lyrics were. The titles on the new songs may not be quite right. I`m not exactly sure how many songs were in the encore, so I`m just going by what I think.
