Chapter 13
After I showered, got dressed, and all that good stuff, I went and asked Mindi (of the band
you know) if she would watch Alexandria. “Of couse I will!” she said. “I love it when I
get to watch her! She’s such a sweetheart!”
“Oh, thank you so much Mindi! I almost forgot to find a baby-sitter, luckily your
not doing anything, thank God!”
“Oh, it’s no problem Brian. Now go and have fun. We’ll be fine.” I gave her the
diaper bag and left and got the rest of the crew. We all 9 squeezed into the suburban built
for 8, but hey, no one knew. I started leaving the parking lot and asked, “Where should
we eat? Or should we golf first?”
Howie answered, “We should probably golf first, it’ll get to dark if we eat first.”
“Good idea Howie,” I said. We got there and tried to get out, and barely
managed. “Are we all gonna go together or split up? I say spilt up so we go faster, ya
think?”
“I think,” said Amy.
“Yeah, me too,” said Lia.
“Ok, let’s divide this up,” said Kevin. “How about me, Amber, Nick, Megan, and
Brian in one group. Howie, Amy, A.J., and Lia in another?”
“Sounds fine,” said A.J.
“Yepper,” said Lia.
“Alrighty then,” I said, doing my ‘famous’ Jim Carrey impression. We started
playing. My group went after the other guys. At the end we were all gonna compare
scores and see who actually truly won.
We got to the 16th hole and Nick said, “Brian, look ahead at the last hole.”
“Yeah, what about it?”
“Do you see that girl?”
“Nick, don’t ruin this night. Haven’t you played matchmaker enough lately, and it
hasn’t been good. Yes, she is a very attractive woman, but I can find my own and when
I’m ready! Please, I’ve been having fun, don’t ruin it for me!” Then I noticed the whole
golf couse was staring at me. ‘Screw them all,’ I thought. I concentrated on the game
from then on. But it was hard, cause the girl Nick had pointed out was very beautiful.
She’d never compare with Sara though, no one was prettier than her. We finished our
game. Here’s the scores if you wanted to know them.....Damn, I didn’t know that Lia was
so good a mini-golf!
Winner - Lia - 51
Kevin - 54
Howie - 55
Amy - 58
Me! - 59
Nick and A.J. - 61
Megan - 64
And Amber didn’t have a good night - 66 (maybe next time tiger!)
We got back into the car and again I asked, “Where should we eat?”
Amber piped up and said, “Let’s go to Carlos O’Kelley’s! I friggin love that
place!”
“Aight with everyone?” I asked.
“Yeah,” said everyone.
We were seated after about 10 minutes (they had to get tables together for all of
us) and they gave us our menus. Pretty soon we all ordered. We were all talking and
pretty soon, this woman came in and looked exactly like Sara. I was stunned. She came
in with, it looked like her grandparents. Evidentially I was staring, because pretty soon
Nick asked, “What cha starin’ at Bri?”
“Look,” I said. “Over there.” He turned his head and looked.
“Oh my God, Brian. It’s, it’s, it’s, well, you know.” Everyone else looked (they
had to wait for a table so they were still standing there.).
Megan said, “Is it her?”
“No.” I said firmly. “It can’t be, can it?”
Kevin said, “I think you should go talk to her.”
“Uh, ok, I guess.” I got up and walked over there. I tapped her on the shoulder.
“Um, hello.” She even sounded like Sara. “Do I know you?”
“I was about to ask you the same question. What’s your name?”
“Tell me yours first.”
“I’m Brian Littrell. I’m in a singing group called the Backstreet Boys. Over there
are the other members and members of another group called 1500, minus one.”
“Oh, I see. Where’s the one?”
“Dead.”
“Oh. I’m sorry. I didn’t know. You were very close to her weren’t you?”
“Why, yes, I was. How did you know?”
“I don’t know, just a guess.”
“Oh. Who is this with you?”
“Oh, this is grandma and G-dad. Grandpa, if you will.”
G-dad, I knew that’s what Sara called her grandfather. This was getting to weird.
“Decided to take them out to dinner, I’m guessing.”
“Yeah. I haven’t seen them forever! You see I live in Minnesota right now.”
“Would you like to join us for dinner. We’ve already ordered, but we’ll wait for
yours to come.”
“I’d like to join you, but I shouldn’t leave them alone, and why make your food
get cold?”
“Well, they can join us too, and we will eat when it comes if you insist.”
“Well, ok.” We walked over to our table and pulled up 3 more chairs.
“Hello,” she said.
“Hello,” everyone said back.
“Hey, by the way,” I said. “What’s your name? You never got to tell me.”
“Oh, um, look! Food’s here!” It was as if she didn’t want to tell us her name.
Her grandma got up to go to the bathroom and so did she. So we asked her Grandpa.
“Her name is, um, oh, look, she’s back.”
“What’s your name?”
“It’s Alexandria, but please, call me Alex.” If that wasn’t ironic I don’t know what
is. Her food came. We didn’t say much while we were eating. “Nick, can you pass the
salt?”
“Sure, here you...” His voice trailed off. “How did you know my name?”
“I know you guys are Backstreet Boys. Who doesn’t? Why did you guys want to
know my name so bad?”
“Well,” I said. “You remind us of someone we know.”
“Oh. I see.”
“I’d better get going. I have to take my grandparents home.”
“Bye,” everyone said.
“Bye.” They left.
“That was weird.” said Howie.
“Her name is Alexandria and she looks exactly like Sara and she’s from near Iowa,
I mean, come on!” said Megan. “They like have to be twins!”
