Chapter 18

I opened my eyes the next morning to see Alex sitting on top of me, “Mornin’ sunshine. Didn’t think you’d ever wake up.” “What time is it?” “9:27.” “What are you doing on top of me?” “I was trying to wake you up.” “I’m up.” “Oh.” “You can get off now.” “Why? What if I don’t want to?” The sad thing is, I didn’t want her to get off. She looked at me with her baby blue eyes. I could see deep inside of her soul. She was the most beautiful person I’d ever met. Even more than Sara. Well, it was close. But everyone was finally right. I was ready to move on from Sara. I can’t morn her forever. I knew exactly who I wanted to move on with too. Not that skanky ho Leighanne, but Alex. Then I snapped out of my trance and looked at Alex. “If you don’t want to then I’ll make you.” “Oooohhhh, Mr. Tough Guy, huh? Well, we’ll just see about that.” Then we both heard the door open and saw Nick standing in the room. “Maybe I’ll, just comeback later, when you’re not so, um, busy.” “Oh, Nick, come back!” we both said. “It’s not what it looks like.” “It isn’t. Good. You two just met a couple days ago. I was hoping you weren’t that far already.” “Oh, no, not at all,” said Alex. “Ew, Nick! You gross-o!” I added jokingly. We all laughed. “I was just trying to get sleepy-head up.” “Yeah, B. You never sleep that late. What’s with ya?” “I dunno. I guess I was just tired.” “Oh. I was wondering, since this is Alex’s last day, if we all wanted to go out and do something.” “Oh, you don’t have to do anything for me. I might see you guys again after graduation. Or on graduation if you wanna come.” “Yeah!” I said. “Sure,” said Nick. “I wouldn’t miss it.” “Me neither.” “Great. Now what did you have in mind? Cause I gotta be at the airport by 9.” “Your late!” “No, Nick. It’s over your head.” “Oh, ok. Me and Meg were both thinkin maybe we all go, and even if the others don’t wanna go, it could be us four, we just go out to like, a movie, and then go eat someplace. Your choice of course. You can choose the movie too.” “Cool! Well, when will we leave?” “Like 5 or something.” “Aight, sound good B?” “Yep.” “Kay, see ya then Nick-ster.” “Aighty!” He left. “I feel like I’m being spoiled.” “Why?” I asked. “Because, you guys all go out and do stuff for me. Like tonight. Then you let me go to your concert for free in the front row.” “Whoa, whoa, whoa. You’re a guest here. All of our guest go for free. And everyone likes you. Besides, we all go out all the time anyway. Lately we haven’t gone much though because I’ve been acting like an ass to everyone.” “Why?” “Don’t ask.” “Ok then. Touchy subject ay?” “Yeah, you could say that.” I walked over to Alexandria’s crib. She was standing up on the side waiting for me. “Hey baby. Did you wake up before me today? You musta had a rough night with Denise, didn’t you?” She screamed a happy scream. That’s my girl the comedian. She then laughed while throwing her little ball at me. She’ll be an all-star basketball player when she gets older. (Just like her mom and dad, heehee) I just know these things. “Brian,” I heard Alex say. “Earth to B-rok. Hello.” “I here.” “Didn’t think so for a while there.” “Why? What’d ya say?” “I said, do you wanna go for a walk or something?” “Sure, where?” “I dunno. Out.” “Ok. Let me get ready first.” “Ok.” By 10:00 we were out the door and walking on Broadway in New York City. I was pushing Alexandria in the stroller and Alex was walking very close to me. I liked it. “Brian.” “Yeah, babe?” “I don’t wanna go back. I’m having to much fun with you guys.” “Awww. That’s sweet of ya. Well, we’ll see ya again at your graduation.” “Yeah, true.” “When is it exactly anyway?” “It’s May 1 at 2:00. Then afterward we rented out a banquet room at the Raddison down the road for a reception thing. I don’t know why. I mean the only people coming are my parents, some of my aunts and uncles, none of my cousins because I hate them all cause they’re selfish little brats. And a few friends from high school and college, and you and Nick I guess.” “Oh. I can’t wait.” “Why? I sure can.” “Cause it’ll be the next time I get to see you.” “Oh! I get it now. I guess then I can’t wait then either.” I stopped in shock. She wanted to see me! Yay! We then continued on our treck. Pretty soon, we stopped to take a break at a bench in Central Park. “I think Alexandria’s tired,” she said. I looked down at Alexandria, sound asleep. “Nah, she looks wide awake to me.” “Rrrrriiiiiggghhhhhttttt.” “Brian, I’m, I’m.....” “Your what?” “I’m so glad that I decided to look for you.” “Why?” “I’ve, well, I’ve had the time of my life with you guys. I never went anywhere, or did anything, until college. But it was never as fun as this time I’m having right now.” “That’s so sweet. I’ve really had a good time with you too.” “Really?” “You act so surprised. Of course I have. Plus I think I’m, nevermind.” “Your what?” “I think I’m starting, to, well, your so nice and everything,” she started to blush. “I think that I’m like, well, falling in love with you.” She stared at me. She looked like she was about to cry. “What’s wrong? Alex, are you ok?” “I...I, um, I don’t know what to say.” “I understand, I mean, if you don’t feel the same way, I understand. We can just be friends or something.” I thought someone just took my heart and broke it into a million pieces. “No, no, It’s not that. I do feel that way.” Now I was feeling better. “It’s just that, I don’t want this to end up like all my other relationships.” “What happened that was so bad, if I can ask?” “Sure, they, the whole thing was bad from the beginning. First of, all of the guys, expect one, I dated were complete jerks.” “Then why’d you go out with them?” “I was suffering from my last relationship, which was horrible, and then the next was just worse.” “How’d they get so bad?” “Half of them cheated on me, the other half dumped me for supermodel like women.” “You are a supermodel.” “Yeah, right. Maybe for a plus size catalog.” “No, your skinny. What, if I can ask, size do you wear? See, I didn’t ask how much you weigh like I’m not suppost to.” “That’s ok. I wear size 6.” “That’s not bad.” “I know, but still, not supermodel material.” “True.” “Brian, just, thanks.” “For what?” “For listening to me while I go on and on about past relationships, I’m sure you love hearing that from a girl.” “I don’t mind. Whatever and whenever she needs me, I wanna be there for her.” “Thanks.” Then she leaned her head on my shoulder and whispered into my ear, “I love you too.” I smiled, then laid my head on top of hers and we sat there until I looked at my watch. “Holy crap! It’s 3:30! We gotta get back to the hotel by 4! It like took us 2 hours to get here.” “Physc down Brian, your gonna wake Alexandria. We can take a cab back. Now come on. How much money you got on ya?” “I got a twenty.” “Well, I got about thirty, so we’ll be fine. Now let’s go.” “Aight.” We walked to the park entrance and called over a cab. We split the bill and got back about 10 til. “We were looking for you,” I heard Nick say. “Yeah, where were you guys?” asked Megan. “Just walkin,” said Alex. “And talkin,” I added. “Oh. Well, you guys ready?” asked Nick. “It’s just gonna be us four if that’s ok.” “I guess. Where we going?” Alex asked. “We thought about going to a movie, but there’s nothing good playing. So we decided we’ll go to this cool place where we can race go-carts on like 12 different tracks.” “Oh, I love go-carts!” said Alex. “I haven’t been in one for ages though. The last time was when my family went on vacation back when I was like, in elementary school.” “Whoa, that was a while back.” “Shut up Brian. You’re older than me so watch out.” “Then I’ll just tell Nick to tell you.” “Look who’s blonde and who isn’t.” “Damn, you’re good.” “I know. Heehee.” “Well, ready?” asked Megan.” “Yep,” said Alex. “Let’s go kids.”
