Chapter 22

(Author’s note: The rest of the story is going to go back and forth from point of view to point of veiw. This is the only way to get all Alex’s and Brian’s emotions in the story. Sorry if it gets confusing, but it shouldn’t. You’ll know when it changes. It my quit after a few chapters too, so don’t be surprised. And if you were wondering, Alexandria is spending a few weeks at her grandparent’s (Jackie and Harold) house.) “Top of the mornin’ to ya, Bri,” I heard Megan say. “You’ll never be Irish, bud.” “I’ve got the luck of the Irish on my side. No, I’ve never seen this much bad luck since the great potato famine of ‘83. It wasn’t this good since St. Patrick chased the rats outta Ireland.” She said all this with the fakest of fake Irish accents. “I’m sure, Meg, I’m sure.” “Want somethin’ for breakfast.” “I don’t care.” “Well, if you do, find it yourself. I don’t cook, do I Nick?” “Nope. Especially breakfast. You don’t eat it, let alone make it.” “Exactly.” “Whatever,” I said. “Can I use your phone? I’ll pay for the call when you get your bill.” “Sure you can, don’t worry about the bill. As high as it is already, we won’t notice the extra call.” “Do you mind if I use the phone in your room? I kinda want some privacy.” “Sure thing.” I went into his room and picked up the phone and began to dial Alex’s number. It started ringing. ‘C’mon, answer please!’ I thought to myself. Then I heard, “You tried to reach me, you know who. If you are a telemarketer, I don’t want any, besides, I’m broke. If you are someone I know and I would like to talk to please leave your name and if you might not think I know your number, leave that too, after the beep. If you are someone I know and I don’t feel like talking to you right now, this is Burger King, my I take your order?” I started laughing, then I heard it beep. “Alex, please listen to this. It’s Brian, and I really wanna talk to you about that photo. I dunno if you screen your calls or anything, but if you do please pick up.” I waited a few seconds then continued. “Well, please, when you get home, give me a call. All I wanna do is talk. I’m so sorry baby. I was so stupid. Just, please, let us talk sometime real soon. Well, you know my number, so, see ya.” I hung up. ‘Oh well, I’ll try again later,’ I thought. I walked back downstairs to the kitchen area where Megan and Nick were standing. “Who’d you call?” asked Nick. “No one. They weren’t home anyway.” __________________________ I heard the phone ringing as I hurried up to my apartment. ‘I wonder who it is,’ I thought to myself. I was bringing home my laundry, and as I turned the key and opened the door, I heard the answering machine pick up. So I waited by the phone incase it was Lee (my roommate) or whoever. Then I heard, “Alex, please listen to this. It’s Brian, and I really wanna talk to you about that photo. I dunno if you screen your calls or anything, but if you do please pick up.” I don’t think so babe. “Well, please, when you get home, give me a call. All I wanna do is talk. I’m so sorry baby. I was so stupid. Just, please, let us talk sometime real soon. Well, you know my number, so, see ya.” As soon as I heard ‘Brian’, I froze. What did he want? Didn’t he already know that he broke my heart just as the 50 guys before him did? How could he have done that. Maybe I should talk to him about it. Maybe he could tell me something I didn’t know about it. But yet, I knew what I saw. I didn’t like it. _____________________________ It was about 2 hours later and I was still at Nick’s house. Him and Megan decided to go out for lunch. I wasn’t really up to it, so I stayed back. I decided to give Alex another try. Again I heard her answering machine. “Alex, it’s me again. Just trying to see if you’re home. Just please give me a call. If I don’t answer my cell, try Nick’s house. I should be there. See ya.” _____________________________ I heard the phone ringing. I went to pick it up, but I stopped my hand from touching it. ‘What if it’s Brian?’ I thought. ‘I’d better not pick up.’ Sure enough it was him. I heard what he said. Maybe I should call him. But then I looked at the clock, ‘Shit,’ I thought. ‘I gotta go to work.’
