Chapter 9

*a few months later* “Brian, you have to get out more!” said Nick. “You’ve been cooped up in this hotel room for like, a long time. You have to get out. Meet new people.” “But I don’t wanna!” I shouted back. I didn’t want to meet new people, cause I knew what kind of people he was talking about. He thought I should start dating again. I wasn’t ready. Didn’t he realize that? He’d been prodding me to go out with a girl since Sara died. If this would have happened to him with Megan, I’d bet he’d feel the same way. They’d really been going strong. I think Sara’s death brought them closer for some reason. I think they both needed someone to rely on, and it was each other. “But Bri! We set you up on a date. She’s really nice, and not hard on the eyes either.” “NO Nick! I already friggin told you no!” “Her name’s Leighanne. She was the actress in As Long As You Love Me and played your girlfriend in I’ll Never Break Your Heart.” “Her?” Ok, ok. I admit, I kinda had a crush on her, but no. I couldn’t. I didn’t anymore. Just that day. No more. No girl except Sara for me thanks. “I don’t think so kid.” “Oh, just give her a shot. She really wants to go out with you.” “No.” “Please? It’s one date. You never know, she just might be you type. Don’t you want Alexandria to have a mother?” “She already has a mother.” How could he say that? Alex doesn’t have a mother. Bull shit! Pure bull shit! I looked at my baby, sleeping in her crib. She was so good on the road. She never cried during the night except a few times. Everyone was glad of that. “You know that.” “Yeah, but one that’s still, well, alive.” “She’s alive in spirit.” “I know that Brian, but....” Ha! No comeback. Good. “You don’t want to be a single father the rest of your life do you?” “I’m not a single father. Everyone here is her parent. Everyone loves her like a child. Even you.” “Yes, but, just do it for me. Please! Just one date with her. You don’t have to go out with her again. Just once.” “Fine! I’ll do it, just once. No promises though. You gotta find someone to watch Alex, or I’m staying here.” “I will.” He left, but not before giving a kiss to Alexandria (his second daughter).
