In her flowing handwriting she had written down Cari's address, 456 Browne Manor. This was it. She pulled her white jeep into the circle drive of the white three-story house. The blaring Green Day was practically making the house shake and she could hear voices inside shouting excitedly. Cari answered the door with a smile, "Sarah! I'm so glad you could make it! Come on in." As Sarah followed Cari down the main hall Cari told her of the change of plans, "I know I said we were going to order pizza but Natalie's boyfriend is like, *great* at barbecue so we're having a cookout instead, isn't that neat?" Sarah nervously shifted her mini-backpack purse on her shoulders, "Um, do you have any gardenburgers?" Cari's face light up as she pointed at Sarah, "Oh that's right! You're one of those heart people! I think we might, my mom is going through a vegetarian fad right now. Follow me and I'll see if I can find one." Cari led Sarah through the living room, which was full of people from school playing "I Never". Sarah hated that game. Once they got to the kitchen Cari nearly disappeared into the industrial-sized refrigerator. Cari yelled, "Found one!" She handed Sarah the plastic wrapped soyburger. "Here, just go out through the solarium and onto the patio and give this to the guy with the kiss the cook apron on. Tom'll cook it just for you." Sarah made her way through the crowds to the patio. There were Chinese lanterns strung outside and someone had a boombox out and those who weren't at the picnic tables eating, were dancing. She found Tom and gave him the soyburger. Tom creased his brow slightly, "You veg or something?" Sarah nodded, "Yeah." Tom smiled, "Ok, I'll have this ready for you in a minute. You want a beer or something?" he said gesturing toward the mountain of six-packs a couple feet away from the grill. Sarah looked down at the top of her hand which hand a heart drawn on it, she shook her head and said, "No thanks, I think I'll just have water." Tom laughed, "Oh god, no meat, no beer, you're just the life of the party!" Sarah made an attempt to smile and then quickly sat down at a picnic table and let the inane chatter of her classmates' wash over her. After eating her slightly burnt gardenburger Sarah decided to take a walk. The Ilders had a huge piece of property, which backed up against the woods. She bet that she could see the stars much better from the woods then she ever would from her dad's house in D.C. She walked across the grass and into the woods. Sarah sat down on a fallen tree and began to gaze upward trying to find her favorite constellation, Virgo. It wasn't officially summer yet so if she faced south and looked southwest of Leo she should be able to see Virgo. This story of Virgo is this, Astraea was the goddess of justice and she moved from town to town in the ancient times. Astraea hoped to find peace somewhere. Instead everywhere she went there was only unhappiness, so Astraea went to live in the heavens. With her she carried a stalk of wheat which broke and scattered grains across the sky. These grains of wheat became stars. Astraea is also known as the Maiden or Virgo. Legend is that only people who love peace and justice can see the stars of Virgo. The sudden snap of a twig behind her broke Sarah from her reverie, she turned around and gasped in horror at what she saw. Over the music no one heard her screams. ------------------------- Send Feedback To The_Lady_Disdain@mailcity.com Thanks :-) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Never lose a file again.
