Tiara, a local indie band, is currently in the studios working on their debut album which is expected to be released in October 2000. The vibe in the studio is positive and unique, so are the 14 tracks on this album.

The album will include tracks such as the famous ‘s**g me song’ also known as Basketball, Japanese orientated Ping Gatueax, and No.176, backed with a majestic string orchestration and French horn fill-ins. The album also contains new material such as Fuzzy Bunny, Battle plans and Teenage in love, the latter two bring this pop album to a more unassuming, deeper and mellow level. Allusion to the 60's 'psychedelic' blends beautifully with lo-fi-ness of the songs. The band’s variety in style swings and flows from one sort to another, with its distinguishing feature of powerful yet haunting vocals. The guitars vary from creamy blues arpeggios featured in Daddy-ho, distinctive chopping sounds in Expiry date, to folk acoustic sounds as in Some People. The bass lines are tactical and technical. In Riverman they are an unforgettable sequence of peculiar distinctive notes, while in Teleport me, they constitute an off-beat chromatics. The keyboards change from ‘pop cheese & corn’ sounds to less commercial and more dramatic classical playing. This contrast can be seen in the album, mainly from the two extremely orientated songs, Basketball vis a vis Teenage in love. The drums are distinctive, creative and energetic throughout the album. Fuzzy Bunny’s drum beat makes it hard on anyone not to bounce around, while the drum bits in No.176 make the song a classic, while speeding to the grand finale.

The power of the band, also captured in the album, is highly exerted when playing live. The gig list pulls the listener through a tour of idyllic happy songs to others of a less ‘happy-happy-joy-joy’ note, yet reboots in the energy aura as in the initial stage of the gig. The band will be having some gigs later on before the summer is out, whilst denying the fact that they haven't split up.

Tiara is made up of Ira Losco on vocals, Jamie De Cesare on guitars, Michael Anastasi on bass, Veronique Zammit on keyboards and Philip Borg Barthet on drums.
