This is a poem I wrote for a poetry contest last year. It didn't win, but it was still fun to write. It's basically giving you the American history in a nutshell.
Ship sailed.
She was found
Across the open sea.
Peopled toiled.
Parts explored.
An infant then was she.
Drum sounded.
Tyranny hounded.
We won our liberty.
Blood shed.
Brother's dead-
Torn apart was she.
Bonds repaired.
People shared
To raise her up again.
Working hard
She grew strong;
A nation envied by men.
People came.
Increased the fame
Of her liberty.
Across the seas
To the wars
To set the nations free.
Back home soon
By mid afternoon
They're off to fight again.
Now where she goes
No one knows
But I will always see
This dear old land
Of worthy hands
A land of liberty.
