Meningitis Nearly Killed Me

One January morning I woke up with a really bad headache. I didn't think much of it as I often them early in the morning. So I headed off to school as usual. During the day it got worse and by one I had to ring my mother to ask her to bring me home. The minute I got home I went straight to bed and slept for a hour or so, but when I tried to get up it felt as if something was holding me back in bed, my head swam. I yelled for my mother and she ran into the room. She gasped and asked me what was that on my arm. I looked down and there was a bright red rash all the way along it. My vision blurred and the last thing I can remember is my mother screaming at my father to ring an ambulance.

I woke up three days later in hospital with tubes sticking in my arms. Panic washed over me until I saw my Mum who explained I'd had a life-threatening bout of meningitis. I was in intensive care but once I woke up, I started to get better but it took a long time.

By the time I got home I was still really weak and had to stay in bed but my family were great and really looked out for me. My near death experience has changed me, I'm not shy anymore as I feel I should grab life with both hands 'cause I never know when something like that could happen again.
