I know that thou art gone to the home of thy rest
Then why should we be so sad
I know thou art gone where the weary are blest
And the mourner looks up and is glad.
In thy faraway home wherever it be
I know thou hast visions of mine
And my heart hath revealings of thine and of thee
And many a token and sigh
In the hush of the night by the wash of the sea
Or alone with the breeze on the hill
I have ever a presence that whispers of thee
And my spirit lies down and is still.
Anonymous
This stone has an angel and weeping willows decorating the top, which has broken off and is sitting at the base, and the bottom part of the stone, with the word "anonymous" is lying flat on the ground about two feet away.
Upon returning home, I looked in my files and discovered that William was the son of Edmund and Rebecca (Doggett) Cheney, and a grandson of the first William. Susan, his wife, was a daughter of John and Susannah Kent of Kent Island. Mary C. Ingersoll, was William and Susan's daughter, Mary Caroline, and was married to John Ingersoll, son of Joel and Rebecca (Ingalls) Ingersoll. John is not in any Grand Manan records, so he might have moved to new England or even the western US, as many did in later years.
