After the Completion of the Transcontinental Railroad

The last ten miles of track was laid by a chinese crew in about twelve hours on May 10th, 1869. There was a cerimony of driving the last spike into the track and the railroad was complete. Afterward, some chinese settled in America and others returned to China. Those that went back to China had prosperity and easily supported their family. The workers that remained in America mostly lived in California and opened shops or searched for gold. Without the contribution of Chinese hlep the endeavor of building the Transcontinental Railroad would have taken much longer and probably would have cost more.
