DAY
19 – YANGSHUO: Overnight train to Guangzhou
Today was a day of waiting.
We were meeting in the foyer to leave for the train station in Guilin at
4 p.m. It was a long and boring day. There were no more places we wanted
to see, no more shopping we wanted to do (no money no room). On my first
day in China I changed all I had of cash, which was about 230 USD. This
morning I had 40 Yuan left, and I didn’t want to change in a 100 USD traveller
cheque on my last day using Yuan.
Alison and I woke up around
8, got dressed and found a cafe to have breakfast. Again I ate a pancake
with banana and chocolate, since this might be my last chance to taste
it. After that we were just walking around and waiting for the hours to
go by, partly just us and partly with John and Donna. We walked around,
bought some food for the train ride, the others bought some CD’s. Our room
were one of those that we had kept until departure, so the others had put
their luggage in our room. And for a couple of hours before departure several
of us from the group were just hanging out in the room, talking and relaxing.
Finally it was time to leave for Guilin. The trainride this time wasn’t
so long, only about 14-15 hours I think, in hard sleeper. I actually prefer
hard sleeper to soft sleeper because it has air-con. We all hate instant
noodles by now, but some of the others ate it one last time. I had chosen
to stick to bakery goods.
