Bishop calls for new check on Creation school

A bishop urged Ofsted yesterday to carry out another inspection of a controversial Christian school whose evangelical teachers have been accused of indoctrinating pupils with a solely Biblical view of the Creation.

The Rt Rev Michael Turnbull, Bishop of Durham, praised the academic record of Emmanuel City Technology College in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear.

He doubted whether such a fundamentalist view had been included in the syllabus but said an objective re-inspection would be beneficial "on the grounds of total transparency.
