Miss Mexico 1928 - Tamaulipas

     This is the time Mexicans see a contest of this nature. The name of the pageant: Miss Mexico, was only a tag because not all the states were represented. Maria Teresa de Landa was the winner of the pageant. She was a girl from Tamaulipas (northern Mexico) that was raised in Mexico City. She came from a high class family and she was well known for being wealthy. In those times, there was a pageant in Galvestone, Texas; called Miss Pulcrity ad Goodwill. Delegates came from Europe and the United States to Mexico City in a parade seen by 70% of the city’s population. Therefore, Maria Teresa goes to Texas, USA to compete in that pageant, but she didn’t do well. During her reign as Miss Mexico, she marries a military guy that used to hit her. For society, she was a dame well known for her intelligence and class; but inside her heart there was a woman that wanted liberation. One day in the morning she wakes up, reads the newspaper and fins out in the heads “General cheats her wife”. She realized that they were talking about her.  She was humiliated, she had been beaten many times; so it was time this guy to pay his debt. She get so angry that she takes a gun that he used to sep, and kills him! There was a judgement that was followed by many fans through radio. The final veredict said that she was not guilty because she was defending herself. So after this happening, Miss Mexico is suspended for 10 years.
