Changes
(A Poem by: Mary Gayle Johnson)

Who am I, what do you see?
I'm a person, why can't you try to love me
Love me for who I am, not what I've become
To be shunned and ignored might be okay for some.
I'm still the same person I was years ago
There's just some things about me that you need to know.
I can't keep this buried, deep down inside
I've spent too much of my life trying my best to hide.
Some people may have noticed, it's really hard to say
Some may even stop and stare or just look the other way.
Why does it matter to them how I choose to live my life
It's not like I'll ever end up with their wife.
All I want from anyone is for them to understand
Not everyone is perfect, not one upon this land.
So try to show me a little love before our lives are done
When it comes right down to it, "Mom, I'm still your son."
