Observation and Data Collection
Procedure
Each week, starting from the 1st week
after the germination of the sunflower plant, the students will measure,
count, and record data using the table below. In order to do this
activity, the teacher will form groups of 4 or 5 students and each group
of students will have his own plant to work with. Each student
will be in charge of measuring one part of their group's plant until the
plant reaches its final size. Very important:
In the first weeks the measurement will be taken in millimeters, then,
in the next weeks in centimeters, then, in the following weeks - in decimeters,
and at the end of the experiment the students will convert all averages
into centimeters and plug them into table No. 2. The conversion
of these units must be a very significant math practice for the students.
