Award winning singer-song writer Johnny Huckle is a descendant of the Wiradjuri Nation, he was born in the central NSW town of Condobolin and raised on the 'Murie' Aboriginal reserve.
John's introduction to a Christian folk coffee lounge called the ,'DUNGEON' in 1972 inspired him to follow a career as an Aboriginal Folk Style Performer.Thats when he bought himself a second hand guitar and his monthly subscription of the'Rolling Stone' magazine, which just happened to have a how to teach yourelf basic guitar chords on it's back cover. From then on there was no looking back for this young Aboriginal singer/songwriter.
At 23 Johnny moved to Canberra and worked as a taxation officer for five years. He joined a local Aboriginal band called 'Black Pearl' in 1980 he became a full time performer at the Tumbled Tree Bistro where he performed mainly covers.Over the next four years John found himself travelling and performing throughout Western NSW and Queensland. In 1994 he joined forces with Merve Graham and performed as the duo 'Dirabang'. In 1997 Johnny joined up as lead vocalist in the Canberra based Aboriginal band "River Bank". In 1999 John joined his talents with those of Helen Moran and together began performing as the Aboriginal Duo "SHADES OF BRINDLE" .
To date Johnny has three solo albums, "Reflections of Johnny Huckle" 1987, "Wiradjuri Country" 1990 & "Koori Love" 1996. While together John & Helen have their debut album "Listen to the Spirit", introducing Shades of Brindle" & their children's album the "Wombat Wobble" both released in 2000.Johnny has also appeared on several Compilation albums, including "Koori Classics 7", "Off the Wall and Black", "Burraay Dreaming Them Home" .
Johnny has toured Vietnam 1997, Western Australia 2000, Sth Australia 2001, Sth Africa and Zimbarbwe 2001, Europe 2002 and he has performed all over Australia, both as a soloist a band and duo member.
