Dizzy
Written by Jill

I'm sure you all know to not let your dogs by your gliders cage or ANYTHING. So here's my story.

I had finally gotten what I wanted after 1 month of research, a Sugar Glider, my 1st. Me and my mom picked her up in St. Cloud from a Breeder, she had Dizzy curled up in an old t shirt sleeping.  She handed the t shirt and all to me and I peeked inside and there was the sweetest little thing I'd every seen. THe Breeder gave us some helpful INformation and sent us on our way. Dizzy didn't crab at all on the way home and let me pet her, and I'd open up my pocket and she'd look up at me with her sweet little eyes...Once I got her home she was still asleep in my pocket. I had ordered a cage for her, 4x3x3, but it hadn't come yet so she had to stay in a 1x1x1 bird cage at nite, for only a couple nights. But she didn't spend that much time in there because she'd run around my room ALL night, and she'd even let me pick her up.  :) I finally got the cage by UPS and put it together. I had the Cage sitting on the ground. I put Dizzy in it and she was Jumping aroudn corner to corner checking. out all of her new Toys. She was the Happiest Lil Thing.
I had only had Dizzy for a couple months when something horrible happened. I went down the road to babysit for the night, and asked my mom to feed Dizzy, but not to let her out to play. She said ok. So I got back from babysitting at 2am and went up to my room to play with Dizzy. The cage door was OPEN! Ok, I figured my mom had her out playing in her room so I went down the stairs (no lites on) Turned the corner and down some more stairs, and knocked on her door and asked if dizzy was in there with her, she was obviously asleep so I opened the door and asked where dizzy was and she said in her cage, and I said the cage door was open. My mom jumped up and ran up to my room and I followed, my mom said she knew she had closed the door. BY now I was crying, saying well she's got to be somewhere. So I made all the dogs go outside and started searching for dizzy, I checked every corner in my room no dizzy. BY now I was crying hystericaly and my mom just kept so "i'm sooo sorry", i was mad. I finnally  went down the stairs and turned the corner and flipped the light on. And there was my little dizzy, dead on the floor. I fell to my knees and picked her up, she had obviously been killed my Sadie, my dog. She was all wet and stiff. I looked into her eyes, and saw how frightened she must have been. my mom came down the stairs and stopped. she went and grabbed a cloth a took dizzy and wrapped her up in it. By now my dad was awake because I was crying so loudly and came out and asked what heppened. my mom told him that dizzy was dead, and he just looked at me and said "well shut up i'm trying to sleep its not the end of the world!" i ran up to my room and cried the rest of the night.
Dizzy had obviously been killed by a dog, somehow sadie must have pawed at the latches and got them open. I was moping around the next month, because i had missed dizzy so much, I never even got a picture of her. A couple months after dizzy's death my mom had gotten me another glider, because she had felt so bad. My mom said i should name her dizzy but i said No because nothing could replace her. So I named her Gizmo. I put extra locks on the cage and put it 3 feet up off the ground.
So everyone who reads this, please take extra EXTRA procautions of your glider's cage and the animals that could be around it. I could have prevented this so easily but didn't know any better.
