Over the last two years of having Rooey as a companion
I have tried nearly
EVERY nestbox/bed available or thinkable. I was running
out of ideas and of
disposable cardboard boxes and tissue boxes so I thought
maybe a sock would
work for temporary use. I cut a hole in the sock
and hung it in her cage by
a clip. It worked well for about a week, she snuggled
in it, and seemed to
like the warmth. Although it was kinda hard to coax her
out of it, it seemed
like it would work. Boy was I wrong....One night I went
to feed her at about
8:00pm and noticed she was not up and about (she usually
gets up at like
7:00pm) so I tried to get her out of the sock, she started
to crab loudly and
tried to nip me. I realized that her little hand was
caught in the stitching
or "loopholes" in the inside of the material. It was
wrapped quite tightly
around, and I could not easily get it off. Her finger
was turning red and was
swelling, so after about five minutes of no success,
I ran for the scissors.
I slowly cut her out, thread by thread. She was okay,
but her hand was
swollen and raw on one finger so I put Antibiotic cream
on her hand it has
healed well. Hopefully this is a message to everyone
not to use any materials
that gliders could get caught it. I have found out that
inexpensive fleece
works well and so do old tee-shirts that can be cut up
