More Glider Proofing Suggestions

Bourbon,

I looked over your page and the following are some notes.

-Thomas

Suggestions for glider-proof additions:

1. watch our for vases, fish tanks, and anything else that will hold water.

2. All drains should be plugged so a glider can't lift up the plug to investigate what is underneath.

3. Empty garbage regularly.  It is best to use garbage cans with a lid.

4. If an electric cord is plugged in, it should be so secure a glider can't pull it half-way out. I agree with   you that electric cords are dangerous, but there are a lot of ways to make them safe.  That precaution shouldn't be overlooked.

5.  Any holes you can fit your finger through, invite escape from a glider-proofed area to an unsafe one.  This includes window screens, gaps under doors, and pipes into walls and ceilings.  Apartments often have small doors leading into the wall where the heater or air-conditioner are (for service)...put a latch on these.

6.  VCR's and other electronics often have a hole big enough to be inviting to the glider.

7.  Cat windows

8.  Fireplaces

9.  Paper shredders

10. dangerous plants, other animals

11. strings hanging from curtains or other places which could cause the glider to get tangled up and trapped (very common)

12. Dangerous toys include:
Hamster tubes with the slits in the side (glider might jump off with his foot caught)
Running Wheels (tails get caught) - use Wodent wheel only
  Strings

13.  Don't sleep in the same room as a roaming glider unless you're positive he/she won't sleep with you.

14.  If you don't know where your glider is, don't cook, sit or lay down, step on anything, turn on anything, do laundry, use any appliance, watch a video tape, etc unless you first make sure it is safe.
